recording bug
everything was working fine in 5.0.3 for me until today when I went to record some midi from my nord into firewire410 into ableton and instead of recording in a linear fashion it just kept stacking all the notes at the very beginning of the measure. it's doing this in both arrangement mode and session view. it's also not allowing my to start recording in session view when I click the scene start button, only if I click on the start clip record button. it's driving me insane. i tried 5.0.2 and it's working fine. tried trashing my preferences and template and it still is f*ing up. i need some serious help. it totally ruined a session with me and 2 other guys we got nothing done today because of this problem.
tried: trash preferences. disconnected firewire drive. even tried routing midi from another track and it still records wrong.
whats up?

although recording notes from my keypad on the computer works fine, but I need to be able to record with the keyboard and for some reason it used to work it's now completely impossible because all the notes are stacked and non linear. and triggering scenes to record needs to be able to function too..
I need some help I'm losing more of my faith in ableton...

oh wait, now I only have one problem
the recording not starting on scene launch is because when i trashed the preferences it changed that in the preferences so that recording wouldn't start on scene launch. so that was just a setting.
the original problem still exists... when i record in session and/or arrangement it won't record anything linear, it only stacks my notes on top of each other. and oddly if I click on the midi clip that it recorded it shows all my notes at a negative measure... weird...

Hi Johnisfaster,
this is a problem of the current 1.6 driver for the FW410 on OS X 10.4.x.
Live 5.0.3 is using timestamps provided from the driver but in these case the stamps are invalid. This is not a problem with the 1.5 driver for OS X 10.3.x
M-Audio is informed about this issue and is currently working on a new driver as far we know. The next bug fix update of Live will have a workaround to handle invalid timestamps.
Meanwhile I would see only two workarounds. You could check if you a have or can get a previous driver for the FW410 or you can use Live 5.0.2 which does not yet use the driver timestamps.
regards,
/Alex

if anyone else has this problem and wants to know where to get the firewire410 1.5 driver that alex mentioned it's not on the maudio site it's on version tracker. I haven't tested it though but I'm trusting alex on this one.
thanks a bunch alex.
