how do i add live's internal effects to only 1 clip

I don't want to add them to the whoooole channel, just to one clip!!! can't figure it out. Tried turning off effect and tried to use envelopes, but if effect is turned off, envelopes don't work. Just don't know what to try, i'm sure it's really easy to do, please help.....

Just to clear things up, Tracks are vertical, Scenes are horizontal and clips are the individual boxes.

What you're talking about is the nature of Ableton Live. Each track shares the same sends and FX.

What's the tradeoff you're trying to avoid? Just make another track!

Good point. An on-off button for each effect, accessible in clip settings might be a handy thing to have in there. Might cause slight pops when jumping scenes though depending on the effect. Or perhaps a Wet Dry for each effect would do the trick, then you could adjust that value in the clip settings. This might make a good wee feature wish. Unless theres another way which I havent spotted!

i think you should check out clip envelopes for those wet/dry settings you're talking about.

one thing which would be nice to see (feature wishlist) would be an effect on/off setting in the clip envelopes, so as you said this would perhaps cause some pops.

what i suggest is to have an option on each effect "100% dry = effect off" so when you automate the clip to have its effects go totally dry, then the effect would turn off.

Thats my thoughts exactly - using the envelopes! When I said clip settings I was really referring to Clip Envelopes!

OK, but there might be some reasons for grouping the clips in a track:
Follow actions and to be able to create common automation for them in arrangement etc.
A wet/dry for the FX's seems a good thing to add. Like it's already there for some, like chorus and reverb etc.

Just adding:
It it possible to turn FX on/off from the clips with envelopes but that requires the envelope to pass a midi loopback to get it back in as external controller data.
You may have a CC at 127 in one clip and at a low value in another (a straight zero will not work, it want be sent) att assigning CC # that to the on/off button of the FX.
(Recording this into arrangement will transfer the controller data into automation of the on/off.)
