I'm building my own right now. What do you want to know?

The first and only place you need to look is:

It's some pretty complex stuff, however if you are serious and a little on the nerdy side, you'll figure it out.

im also in the process of building one, the ucapps site should be pretty much all you need.

...but note that doing a doepfer box, although easier, will cost you at least twice as much as a ucapps one, and bigger boxes will eventually take up more space, since each board has its own processor and midi in/out, even though they'll all be merged eventually.

I've been waiting so I can't get burned by Faderfox or NAMM announcements & because I'm reluctant to break through my MIDIbox confusion but hopefully that wait is over tomorrow.
No matter what anyone announces, I doubt there'll be anything that effectively covers all of the MIDI-assignable clip window controls--rotaries for clip transpose, loop & clip start/stop points, fader for clip quantize & clip volume, and some high resolution controller for clip nudge, all layed out to look as much like Live's clip window as possible.
I'd like a small controller that does this with well-spaced chunky (i.e. fast & easy) knobs & arcade buttons for those clip functions and several other DJ-specific controls for transport/edit tricks, volume strobes, etc. The idea would be that it could augment nearly anyone's setup, regardless of what controllers they're already using.
All the hardware manufacturers are stuck in an old keyboard/DJ mixer paradigm, when they need to be designing from the software out. If anyone's interested, I could throw the design I have up & we could all start comparing concepts. I like the idea of the forum democratically designing its own dream controllers. If I built one, I'd want to post the whole process so others could do it, too.
Maybe Faderfox or Doepfer or someone else (M-Audio has a lot to gain from dedicated Ableton hardware) will surprise us, but chances are everyone here will still have gaps they want to fill.

can anyone point me to a site that explains which parts are needed for a custom built controller?

one basic question is where to connect all pots and faders to. what are the essential modules?
