Why put resources on a whole new version when those resources could be put to use on fixing existing software?! Why not fix the existing bugs twice as fast with a big development team instead of having another team working on 6.

I wonder if Live 6 will finally push Live into the bloatware territory....
Couldn't agree more, its almost like they're basically writing off 5 and moving on to 6, leaving MOST of us that paid for 5 with a product that is risky to use in a live performance at best. 5.2 better be the shit and fix a lot of problems, or this 6 business is just a slap in the face to the core community here.

actually that would be a slap in the face to all of thier customers around the world that are running into these problems and never log on to the board, AND everybody on here

techically speaking :) but i have a feeling thats the last thing they, not to mention and all of thier investors and accountants, would want. for sure

I think perhaps that a lot of the bugs in v5 would require a serious re-write to squash - Ableton are putting their (slightly limited) resources into making the best software, which means learning from v5 and getting v6 (with Dual-Core support etc., so it's a big re-write) right from the start.

It does suck, and we the users have to bear the brunt of the Abe's mistakes in coding v5. As a programmer though, I sympathise with the Abe's problems, since when you're writing software, you can inadvertently write yourself into a hole without realising it, and it can require some serious work to avoid whatever problem you've created for yourself.

As much as it bites for all the people who jumped on at v5 (including myself) I think Ableton have made the right decision, because it will mean that in a years time they'll have the best possible program, whereas if they try and fix v5 and THEN do v6 after that it would be a huge waste of resources.

Hehe, another Melbourne programmer :)

I also feel for the programmers there. I know what it's like to develop something, only to realize you may have bitten off more than you can chew once it's too late to go back.

However, I'm wondering if the inclusion of dual core + PDC + billions of VSTs will be too much again for version 6 and we'll all run into this whole issue again.

I was SO excited to upgrade from 4 to 5, but now I am at the point where 6 is not going to be an option till at -least- 6 months after they release it. By that time they will have hopefully ironed out the huge bugs in 6 and hopefully bedded down 5.

Ideally, a piece of software should work properly when it's released. Yes, it is good marketing in the short term to release a product because of a trade show, but it suuuure ain't good in the long run. There are going to be a lot of people who won't upgrade to 6 like the droves did from 4 -> 5.

Hey timothyallan, what sort of coding have you done? Did you study in Melbourne?

I remain optimistic about the v5 -> v6 transition, but I seriously hope that Ableton keep the upgrade costs low.... that's the most important point in my mind. It's obviously not that easy for those who rely on v5 to get their work done.

I had finally found the info aswell on the home page, Thanks anyways. I'm glad we get 5.2 for free since it is a bugfix. I'm hoping for better rewire support because i heard it is not that good in live.I'm not use to working around a delay in audio timeing, Sonars rewire is pretty good.So better rewiring is important to me.

Damn glad I waited. I'm still on 4.1.4. I didn't do the lemming leap this time because of all the fuss about 5 being buggy/sluggish.

I have to admit, Anubis, that was a very slick move. Beat repeat is worth it though. Wheeeeeee!

why pay for an upgrade to something that doesnt work properly now? why would you do that. all these features discussed should be part of a 5.5 upgrade. take a look at the latest stylus rmx upgrade, and it free to existing users. logic pay upgrades usually come with new effects, processing tools and synths.

just dont upgrade they will get the message.

MY gut says that the "new feature will be removed" and that the gain in CPU would eliminate most of the performance affecting problems that "I" have been having.
