Play won't play

Just opened a file to continue work and for some reason The Play button does not work. I have restarted and opened another file and the same thing happened. Any clues?

I should have also added I am working from an iBook system OS x and running Ableton 4. It has been fine since I installed it over 6 months ago.

You may be on external sync. Make sure the ext button on top left isn't selected.
