warp marker problems - new computer
i've just bought a new computer, installed live no problem. all my audio files have been stored on a external hard drive for use with a laptop. i have done a mass transfer of files to the new desktop computer. the only problem is all my warped files have been reset and are now useless. what can be the reason for this. is it something to do with the way the new computer decodes the info? is there some way to correct the problem.

yeah, a full copy of the entire folder. i cant understand it. so i loaded a file from the original external drive - the warp marker clip settings have all gone. loaded the same file from the new destination - warp marker as new no settings. now heres the rub. plug the external drive into the laptop. load the same file and the warp marker is perfect all the settings are correct. go figure. the only thing i can think of is the difference in processing power between the two computers.

i'm gonna bump this thread cos i've done some more tests and i'm hoping someone can help. i've e-mail ableton but i'm waiting for a reply.
step one:
transfered all files and folders from the external firewire hard drive to my new desktop computer. all warp markers have been reset and look as new and are therefore usless.
step two:
opened the same files on the laptop via the external firewire hard drive. all warp markers perfect.
step three:
transfered all files and folders to a usb external hard drive. opened the same files on the laptop all warp markers perfect.
step four:
transfered all files and folders to the new desktop via the external usb drive. all warp markers reset and as new and are therefore useless.
step five:
opened up the same file from the external usb drive [without transfer] via the new desktop. all warp markers reset and as new.
step six:
try the laptop again everything perfect.
the two computers are both on 5.03. the laptop has had continuous upgrade since live 4.04. the desktop is a fresh install of 5.03. the laptop has a 5200rpm hard drive, the desktop has a 7200rpm hard drive. those are the only real differences. can anybody help? is there a flag in the options that might be causing this. its very strange and i know it shouldnt be happening.

I think this is a definite bug.. I haven't as many problems with warp as i've had with 5.0.3. For me, it's not just a problem with moving from computer to computer, but with warps in general. They're not sticking. I've disabled autowarp, still no go. And, it's intermittent.. not all my files rewarp. but i have to constently rewarp alot of them, and it's pretty annoying. I'm not a newbie, and this is definitely discouraging. I'm not opening these files up in any other program.. they're always kept seperate. From session to session, i always have a problem. Sometimes the warp marker at the beginning will move, but the rest will be right on, i just have to move it back... sometimes the warps are gone completely.. it sucks donkey nuts..

i dont seem to have an issue on the laptop. apart from it crashing now and again when i move files around in windows explorer - at least i think thats the reason. i cant think of any reason this to happen. if i go back to 5.02 i'm still going to have a ton of warping to do. it a complete shitter. i am completely stumped by it. the desktop has nothing on it apart from live. i have uninstalled all non-essential programs before i put live on. so it cant be a conflict.

i remember reading on this forum that if you had quicktime or other packages it can improve the mp3 decoding. is this true?
as the laptop has quicktime and the desktop doesnt. could mean two different decoding methods are in play and therefore causing the asd files to lose there reference points?

do u own 2 copies of live... one's an upgrade ones a full version.
its interesting its the systme the warping was originally done on that retains the markers
I know your pain. I have exactly the same problem.
First came across this problem when my new laptop arrived. I copied all my files from my desktop across to find that the WMs were wrong and often the start of the sample was missing.
We're talking self contained saves as well?
I eventually gave up trasfering ableton files and just moved my samples and re-built my arrangments on the laptop.
Not very good really.

Try out with quicktime installed on the other machine too!
If the file in the decoding cache has a different lenght as the one for wich the .asd was created, I guess the same happens as if you try to replace your sample by one of a different lenght.
I noticed that while replacing the mp3´s with the jumping warpmarkers bug by their .wav. The ones from the decoding cache are ok, but if I decode the mp3´s with lame encoder and try to replace them my markers had gone too.
I hope this sorts it out for you too.
Greetings

thank god im not the only one.
i have one copy of live - but as part of your licence argeement you can set it up on two computers.
i've been in touch with the abes, but it gone a little quiet [probably on the way back from namm].
i'll try the quicktime and settings folder tips tonight. i'm might start a thread in the bugs section if you want to chip in. i'll also compare the lengths of the decoded files.
i dont want to reconstruct any work as i have about two years [25 gb] worth of warps on the laptop - all my dj set stuff [may be its god trying to tell me something].
