undo "save set self-contained"

Post by kiteless » Mon Feb 13, 2006 2:40 pm

Hey guys,

I accidentally selected "save set self-contained" from the file menu. This destroyed all references to my music library and copied all sounds to a new folder (2.6 GB worth). This is not something I intended & I cannot select undo.

I was wondering if anybody has any advice as to how to restore the references in my file back to the state they were in before I selected "save set self-contained".

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Sam

Any luck finding a solution for this?

:?
Ableton’s engineers are hard
at work developing code that will allow our software to predict the future, but we don’t
anticipate having this available until at least the next major release.

I think hitting the "replace" button one by one should do it.

OR, I'd move the self-contained files to a DVD for safekeeping, then delete them from yr HD, then open the set again & relink 'em when prompted. Use the find field on the file dialog that comes up & it speeds things along. If you do it this way, Ableton might be smart & auto-link some of them if they're in common folders (seems to, at least). I have problems with this b/c I don't keep my 200+ GB music library with me all the time, & I'm always having to relink smaller sets on my laptop back into the library.

Thanks for the info John.

I ended up closing Live, deleting the sounds folder (after backing up, just in case) then opening the file again. Live then prompted me to locate the samples. It didn't take as long as I thought it would, there must be some auto linking as John suggested.

Anyway thanks for the replies. Maybe I'll write to ableton suggesting a confirmation prompt before saving set self-contained, or at least some way of undoing. I'm sure I'm not the only person who has done this.
