Is there a big difference between A 4 & 5 ?

I downloaded the Demo of Ableton 5 and found it excellent @ making 2 different BPM tracks the same BPM. IE: i just dropped the 2 tracks in a ABleton set the 2 tracks at the same BPM. (so many uses). A friend has Ableton 4 and says he can`t do that. He can do it with small loops but not full tracks. Is this true ? I thought Ableton was thee program for this even from the early versions,but can you only do the above in A 5 ???????

(PS I`ve been offered Abelton 4 cheap,but i`m having second thoughts after hearing of this diference) ((i know buy 5, but theres a big price diference,even tho i really want 5)

You can warp large files in version 4, but YOU must do the work. In Live5, Live will do most of the work for you. It's not perfect, but it's damn good.

THE biggest differences between Live 4 & 5 are the things that Live 5 have that are missing in Live 4.

so get A 5 then !!!, can`t believe 4 don`t do it. 5`s not been out that long and for ages now people have been raving about abletons `live` capabilities,which i can see in 5 but i`m gob smacked it did`nt do it in 4 !!

PS just got an email asking me if i know about "auto warp` for large files in Ableton 4. is that the way its done in 4 and where is it !!! ???????

I'll say it again. there is no auto-warping in version 4. It is a new feature in 5. If you want to warp long tracks in 4 you'll need this http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic. ... cris+cowie to help you warp old skool style.

You'll still need to be able to warp like that though. Live 5's autowarp is just good for getting the tempo right before you do the manual stuff.

Point for Robin! Yes, auto-warping isn't perfect.

It does remove that metronome step in Chris's instructions so it aint all bad.

If people are expecting to throw mp3s at it and it get it all right then it's a little disappointing.

It is less disappointing than using Traktor 2.6 to try and do this kind of warping in my experience though. 10 Beat markers/cue points is sometimes not enough, especially for songs that don't know how to spell BPM. Live seems to help you massage your way through these issues a lot better.

Thats' interesting to know about Traktor gaspode....i've not used it.

never really liked Traktor

The point i need to "throw MP3`s at it and expect it to happen" is to get the bpm for surre of say an old disco track and then use that to play other parts to it (be it in cubase/ableton or whatever) I`m a vinyl man butAbleton certainly will be usefull.

I warp a lot of old disco too. In fact if there is a human drummer on there then Live5 can sometimes get the warping right (it might need a select all on the markers and move them slightly to the left).

Yeah, I initially found traktor very interesting and they were doing a lot of things nobody was doing at the time. Today Live 5 vs Traktor 3, there really doesn't seem to be much competition. Traktor just doesn't seem as innovative as it was when it was initially released.

I just hope that Live 6 is more innovative than Live 5 was. Certainly there was a lot of needed features in 5, but it wasn't nearly the upgrade that 3/4 was.
