[OT] Smoking ban in the UK
Yeah, hahahaha!
btw I was in the Arches last December.... nice place, but I wonder how they are going to get the smoking ban to work in there. The only exist I seen was out the front under the archway. You're not going to get a few hundred people standing out there.... yiz'll probably get a beer garden for that place, maybe out of a disused car-park or something.
Another bad point, you can smell everybodies 'overdosing' of perfume and aftershave. You'd be surprised how many people still wear 'old spice', hehhe!

Now that is a bit hash IMO.hambone1 wrote: Also, placing those who voluntarily choose to abuse themselves with alcohol, drugs, smoking, poor nutrition, and no exercise lower on the health system priority lists in favor of those who have the discipline, self-respect, willpower, and concern for others to look after themselves.
So people that are already down will be put even lower... cynical.

I'd rather they banned non-electric cars, and I think it'd have more of an effect on most people, but WTF do I know.
As long as I can still smoke outside and at my own place, I suppose it's OK.
(you bunch of fucking fascists!)

Suit #1: I mean, have you got any insight as to why a bright boy like this would jeopardize the lives of millions?
Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.

Haha, like it will stop smokers from smoking, we have freaking skulls and crossbones and YOU WILL DIE HORRIBLY on cigarette packs and people smoke just as much as they allways did.
If they finally get smoking totally banned you think it will stop there? no, then the complainers will find something else to be offended by.
"Waiter, that man is eating meat, why don't you have a non-meat eating section, and my clothes smells of meat now waaaaah"

Yeah, next they should ban farting. I can't imagine all that methane is good for our lungs.

It's scary how many country's are on the path to "1984". Even where I live....
So many possible outcomes...
It's all about "can the government tell you what you can and cant do with your body".
One small step for smokers, one giant leap for mankind.....
They're just peeling away our rights like a banana.
It's only a matter of time till they bite.
Re: [OT] Smoking ban in the UK
dont forget the NHS spends three times as much repairing fat people who cant control their gluttony urges thats rampant in the uk. I find obesity to be MORE offensive than smokers. Anyone who doesnt respect their body dont get my respect. Lets tax the shit out of fat fuckershambone1 wrote:Fantastic! It's about time we were protected from the damage inflicted by others.
No more smoke damage to equipment, no more putrid stench of smoke on clothing, no more streaming eyes, or damage to healthy lungs.
And if it forces or encourages users/abusers to quit, eases the burden on the health system.
Let's hope they can enforce it.
My religion looks down very badly on obesity, your religion embraces it. The body is a temple I am not a smoker and i am not fat
your totally wrong here prove your facts with a linkhambone1 wrote:The health system savings (estimated £4 billion) more than offsets the tax revenue (around £1 billion).network.funky wrote:But if it encourages people to quit smoking then the tax revenue from ciggies will go down. So then they'll start taxing us all some other way. I'd rather the smokers kept paying and kept my tax bill down.
Keep on smoking smokers! Don't let the ban put you off!
martin808 wrote:hows it going to work? shurely they cant have a whole club standing outside havin a smoke.... I'm all for it btw. I'm just wondering cos normally once your in the club you cant get back out unless your stayin out.
That is exactly what happens. It has been that way in Oregon for a bit now. At least in Eugene. Big canopies and propane outdoor heaters all around.
If any of you Brits want to profit off of this you might want to start selling canopies and outdoor heaters to clubs because they will all need it.
I enjoy a smoke here and again but have always disliked tobacco smoke inside. That's so Nasty.

It's about how irresponsible actions of selfish individuals affect others, from passive smokers in public places, to their own familes, to an overburdened health system.
We have a new ad here on the BBC. It's about a 38 year old mother, soon to die from lung cancer. You should hear what her 17 and 11 year-old daughters have to say (when they're not crying) about losing their mother. The mother is selfish enought to say, "I gambled, and I lost."
No... she gambled and her daughters lost. It doesn't get any more selfish than that.
Mohamed - I agree with you. Voluntary obesity is just as self-centered and selfish as tobacco abuse.
