does he gradually increase the speed or is it like BAM 2x faster?

because you can use the tempo multiply and divide buttons in their by the warp settings to do that.

It would be easy to built a MAX/MSP plug that would load a wav, and plays it pitch/speed controlled by a slider/knob, controlled by MIDI.... though the pitch would be affected....

Doesn't the trick with moving the clip's tempo work if it is warped straight ? I'll give it a try soon....

I'm not talking of the X2 or :2, but of dragginf the actual temo value, with the mouse, up and down.

it skips when you do that, because when you release the mouse/key/knob on your controller, it will try to readjust the song to the bpm value you changed

Is this the effect where he varies the delay time (in milliseconds) of a delay plugin? As the delay gets shorter the speed will appear to increase
based on that clip you posted toufas, i believe lord kahn nailed it. have you tried fiddling with an 'analogue style' delay over a track? this should do that type of effect any time you feed it a signal and mess with the delay time. i'm not sure the ableton delays will do this, but there is a few vst plugs you can do this with.

Probably a tape delay, or could be done with a decent sampler

Pitch Wheel->Sample Pitch

Loop sample, turn pitch wheel

Audio Damage Dub Station does this nicely:

edit, and this isnt exactly a new technique, it's been done on reggae dub tunes since the 50s, listen to something by black uhuru dub versions to hear this ab(used) to the max

Are you sure he's not just cutting a short loop from one of the tracks he's playing with FinalScratch, not Ableton...since he always seems to use both? I'm pretty sure FinalScratch is capable of doing this (not an FS user myself)... similar to cutting a short loop with the DJM-600 sampler and gradually shortening its duration, but you can change the pitch simultaneously. That is unless you've seen him do this on a strictly Ableton setup.

Yeah Tinhead,

Smells like FS/Traktor2|3 -- good range of tempo/pitch. This also works well with two computers running Live, it's just not as intuitive to mess around with as traktor can be.

Best,
L
