Interesting post.

Cafe jerk.

But as an aside..how does everyone manage to put in the neccessary with music and maintain a life outside it? ( I'm thinking job/girlfriend/wife/husband ..OH/SO whatever..)
I find when I dissappear into music, I need to really dissappear.

audio visual technician - i pile round london in a van installing sound stuff and computers for people with more money then sense to do pointless conferences with. sometimes its ok, sometimes its a real pain in the ass but it gives me money to spend on noisy toys and bits and pieces.

juggling time between work, sleep, music and all things related, and the wife is sometimes hard. i need about 30 hours in the day not 24, then i'd be able to manage. ho hum. still, im never bored though.

check out this transatlantic auld lang syne uk/argentina noise collaboration thing i did recently:

This is a problem... Especially since two years back when my daughter was born. The term "free time" or "my time" doesn't exist like before. I wouldn't trade it for the world, but I miss sitting a whole weekend with a song. Now it's more like: "Wow - she's asleep! Should I read a book, lie on the couch, watch Lost or actually make some music?" The music making gets fragmented, which is resulting in a HD full of sketches, but no songs.

I'd love to finish something. Maybe when she turns 18!!! :D Although sometimes she joins med for some freestyle drumming!

Mikael

Software developer. That pays the bills. I'd love to be a paid excentric, though.

Seriously I've also been asking myself what to do in the future. I really put a big emphasis on my artistic production, i don't think it's a hobby, its a lifestyle, something i will do until my last day on earth. And would really like to have more time for it, for studying/researching/investigating...creating. I haven't made my mind yet, I really need to pay the bills, and living as an electronic musician is not really like...realist. Not here, at least.

What's your take on this?

Turn up the radio. Turn up the tape machine. Look into the sunset up ahead. Roll the windows down for a better taste of the cool desert wind. Ah yes. This is what it's all about. Total control now.

I'm a freelancer in some related areas: Music (both performing and producing recordings), Magazines (mainly wring for a computer studio mag and a guitar player mag), author and speaker (wrote a book on the "music biz things"), private teacher for some musicians, Logic consultant (the music software).

Jobs I have quit in the past to free up time for making music my own way: Pro musician, Web designer, Administrating Clerk.

Holy shit... reading back it all looks too "impressive". The sad truth is that I'm a lazy bastard that can't stay on a regular job (always looking to the other side...). Today I kind of adjust my economy to live on a shoe string and it works because very few of my "occupations" need me to have a car and transport myself anywere to make money.
Greetings from Sweden
