Powerbook Latency Settings?

I'm running a powerbook G4, 1.5 ghz with 512 megs in it. I'm running live 5.

I run into latency issues all the time. Even with a single drum loop playing, with no effects, all other apps shut down and Norton disabled, I still will get repeated snare hits when there should be only one, along with similar audio artifacts.

I've tried cranking the latency in the options up to some very large values with no change.

Have people made any specific tweaks to run Live on a Powerbook? I'd hate to have to build a Windows machine just to run Live....

Are you experiencing this during recording or just playing back ? In any case, stick as much ram as you possibly can in your powerbook and try again. Most powerbook users agree that 1gig of ram is the minimum you want to succesfully run live.

Honestly it is the lack of Ram going to 1 gig will be like night and day to you.. OSX loves to eat ram
512 is only good for email and the web and the like
audio apps needs lots of ram.. to give u am idea my powerbook with 1 gig of ram in someways is as fast as an imac with 512 of ram.. especially when running things like live
dont buy apple ram but someother good quality ram and save yourslef a bundle

my advice is to do a clean reinstall of OSX without norton.
don't even have the cd on the same table.

Well, I have a Macbook arriving in 2 weeks, supposedly, so I'd like to hold out on the RAM purchase until then, but then again there won't be a Universal Binary for that yet either, so I don't know what I'm gonna do.

Maybe I should just bite the bullet and build a Windows box. <sigh>

Maybe I should just bite the bullet and build a Windows box. <sigh>

why spend more cash on a windows box.. I just saw some indepth tech articles on the different CPU's ranging from the dual xenon's and atholons to the Dual G5 and the new Dual core Intels (this was in a Mac) and the dual core was quicker in some readins than anything apart from the Dual 2.5 G5 powermac..

Well, I found the problem, but only *after* I dropped a gig stick in the PB, bringing it to 1.25.

What I was doing is loading up a full-length mp3 track from something my singer is working on so I could record a percussion track for it.

I didn't realize that Live would then add about 500 warp points to the mp3 files, which made it sound like it was stuttering....

Oh well, now I can run Photoshop and Dreamweaver at the same time, and I can load a truckload more stuff into Live at the same time.

And my Macbook should be shipping soon....
