Request for Bent Circuit samples

Post by pearsonart.com » Thu Feb 16, 2006 5:32 pm

I've played a little with this idea.

Does anyone have access to some bent circuit devices?

If so, would you consider recording some and posting samples for download?

Raw audio would be even better but I know that eats up bandwidth.

FTP might be the best bet.

the term is 'circuit bending'... might help with your search.

Just pop open a device and use a 1k resistor to start shorting stuff together, use those in conjunction with diodes, potentiometers and capacitors for more happy accidents.

try typing in the lettering on the top of a chip and checking out the spec sheet to find the interesting pins (and avoid the power pins.)

A couple of months ago, one of my students brought in a battery powered toy to use as a circuit bending project. We recorded about 20 minutes of stuff that I edited together with some other guitar manipulations to make the basis of a song. Very addictive!

I specifically hoped that others might be willing to post their experiences since so much of this seems to be random and performance based.

I have a few circuit bent toys I've sampled.

This is a talking guitar, unfortunetly it's too bent to make into a performance like instrument. It can however (unintentially) make some crazy dog vs cat loops. But it's broken most of those sounds are just how it sounds when you turn it on. I've tried my hand at arranging full songs with just samples gathered from a single toy, only one of them made it to the website

It's a speak and read, which was found at goodwill, and we paid 1 dollar for it. I don't intentionally try to make a snare drum sound or anything it just eventually burps one out and I put into an impulse.

I intend to put more up. It's not easy working on a circuit bent song, it makes you crazy and question the meaning of life, both of which are fun things.
