How come most laptop performing musicians use macs??
this is why i get angry
peoples reasonings are so stupid.
look right now as we speak Apples prices are competitive with PC's. not to mention look at what you get when you get a mac. you get first class software. pc's do not come with the software that macs do right out of the box.
a lot of people seem to just look at the spec sheet. its a really dumb way to buy a computer. its like when you walk into fucking comp usa and you ask the guy "tell me about this computer" he looks down at the little piece of paper that hangs underneath and reads you off the fucking specs.
sometimes people buy for more than just that. mac users are mac users because of the OSX. hell maybe if they did license the software then they could really grab a big market share.
pick up a goddamn apple laptop and a basic dell and you'll see and tell the difference without even turning it on. go look at sony's really nice laptops, look at their prices.
no technology is without faults and problems. this includes macs. the debate that this crashes more than that will never be settled. thats a completely subjective point of view.
same goes for the ipod. the ipod spec wise offers the same thing other competitors do. however you get the great software that is itunes, you get a better looking ipod (in my opinion) as well.

For the people that have no faith in Mac:
Have you owned a Mac or are you just assuming
you wouldn't like it?
I don't know anyone who has
tried a Mac and switched back.
The majority of people start on a PC and switch because
they find the PC to leave them wanting more.
I personally own both. The Mac I bought, the PC was given to me.
I don't think you can argue one way or the other unless you own
or have owned both.
If you don't give a Mac a shot, you will never know what you
are missing.

Well... Mac users make better music!
Sorry, I couldn't resist. All in good fun...
I'm just as contemptuous of Windoze.

I bought my powermac about a year ago. I used it for music production for about a month. Then switched back to my old PC because it way outproforms my mac. That and the mac PCI slots are a bit of a mess. For example I cant use my UAD card with my powercore card installed. Funny "It just works" in my PC. Sucks concidering that my PC cost under a thousand bucks to build and my mac was $2600. My next computer will NOT BE A MAC, that is fore sure.Alex Baldwin wrote: I don't know anyone who has

Oh, you crazy mac users!Digi V wrote: the XP system is still unstable because of its foundation.
XP is based on Windows NT. Other NT-derived operating sytems include Windows Server 2003... which is what like half the fucking internet runs on. Yeah, really unstable.

Heard of Unix servers ? I seriously doubt about "half of the Internet"... Anyway I' tired of this old debate... and I use the best laptop ever.meatfestival wrote:Oh, you crazy mac users!Digi V wrote: the XP system is still unstable because of its foundation.

no, you're crazy. the windows fanatics are the crazy ones. they think because the majority of the population uses it means its the best.meatfestival wrote:Oh, you crazy mac users!Digi V wrote: the XP system is still unstable because of its foundation.

do the history. thats all i have to say.
My $.02
I use Windows, OSX and Linux on a daily basis, and I've used all 3 for daily workstation duties for years.
These days, I always reach for the Powerbook. Windows just drives me insane (I've been using it since 2.0), Linux just doesn't have stuff like Live, and the Mac meets all of my Unix needs, plus my shiny gui needs. I still have Windows and Linux laptops and desktops around the house, but when I'm recording or prepping a set, the PB is in my hands. Or on the arm of the couch. Or whatever.
It's not a matter of marketing, it's not a matter of price (my job bought it for me), it's a simple matter of what I like to work with.
I don't know what everyone's going on about with rebooting and crashing on Macs, since OSX came out it's been like a rock for me. Give it a gig of ram (which you should anyway, if you're going to be recording) and it's as solid as anything I've ever used for a workstation.
There's a Gentoo box, an Ubuntu laptop and an XP laptop right here. I'm not using any of them.

Actually, you'd be surprised. Their market share is larger than you'd think, but you're right, it's no where near 50%. Windows servers presently make up about a quarter of webservers on the internet. It used to be higher, but anyone that has run IIS before will understand why their market share has diminished over time.mocker wrote:Heard of Unix servers ? However, if you're looking for what OS actually runs the internet, it's by far and away cisco's IOS.

No, that's not the point I'm making. Just trying to debunk some of the preposterous nonsense mac fanboys come out with when trying to say how unstable XP supposedly is.Digi V wrote: they think because the majority of the population uses it means its the best.
Ironically, Mac fans think that they're the best because most studios & digital DJ use them.

what's interesting though is that 99% of servers are probably using some x86 processor. Up until say about a year ago, most Mac fans would have scoffed about how that's the only good thing they're for, and the Power architecture is so superiorsqook wrote: In terms of the actual number of webservers that are running windows, the netcraft survey provides a much more accurate measure.
edit: just looked at the netcraft thing, and I see that apache has about a 70% share, but remember apache runs on windows too
