Follow on actions using to much cpu

just using one little follow on action uses 2% on the cpu i noticed and when you start using alot it adds up............. is this right?

I use follow actions but not that much.But i will try out to see how it goes.
What' the CPU speed of your g4?
RAM?
OS?
Version of Live?
What kind of audio card?

12" powerbook g4 1.5ghz cpu speed,512MB ram, live 5.0.3, osx 10.4.5, core audio sound card
