Master Set construction for gigging; go back to Live 4???

Post by GaryTracks » Mon Feb 20, 2006 6:54 am

All the bug talk, and my own annoying bugs, and I’m spooked. It’s time for me to ready my template for stage performance. I can’t afford instability. Any stories?

I’m trying to do a lot; 6 tracks of loops, 4 of audio instruments, lots of effects and EQ, some realtime looping of other musicians, Battery, 3 midi controllers. Live 5 is my groovebox, my mixer, my looper, my effects, my instrument.

It’d be a bummer to go without Beat Repeat, and Devices and Live Clips, but I could deal with it.

Before I begin final assembly, I thought I would see if anyone had any advice. I could really use some professional opinion here. Whadda ya think Robert Henke would use?

I’m running 5.0.2.

I've used Live 5 for several gigs - mainly running audio though, no vstis.

best bet, is to rehearse using it and if it is stable for x hours of play, then go for it.

if you have crashes then use 4.xx version

yeah, you're right. just trying to save some headache and time.

any 5 users pushin' the limit on stage with a powerbook?

actually, come to think of it , she runs pretty stable in session view. i've had most of my bugs trying to USE LIVE 5 AS A MULTITRACK SEQUENCER. kick-ass cool, but equally annoying.

I haven´t tried 4 since upgrading to 5 but I might try that next time . . .

There seems to be some memory leak or similar in 5 , first half hour or so all is well , but then interupts and cpu gradually start creeping in . .. at least the last 3 times I played live that was my experience.

If I were you, I'd build my set in Live 4 first, and then make a copy that I'd try to rehearse with using Live 5, and see if it works according to your expectations.

I have Live 4 AND Live 5 versions of all the sets I use @ gigs and on tour (I'm a freelance drummer/producer).

Hope this helps... Good luck!
