Ok thats performance and my computer works fine on cubase sx by the way.AdamJay wrote:FWIW, Cryptic
i used to have the same PB as you, and as soon as i upgrded the ram (i think i went up to 1.25GB) most of my problems disappeared. especially audio drop outs.
512MB of ram is great for MS Office and The Sims 2, but not for serious audio work.
that wont get rid of bugs inside live, im serious
hey what does FWIW mean?
peace

i am not on the ableton payroll, i can assure you.
but i was VERY frustrated when i bought my brand new G4 1.5ghz 12" Powerbook about 1 year ago. so i think i can relate to your frustration. If you search some of my threads in the bugs & problems section you will see my posts of discontent.
as soon as i upgraded the RAM, to 1.25GB all the drop outs stopped and i was ultimately happy with Live 4 and Live 5.
just trying to help...

no probs mate,
but never said anything about drop outs, its just all the bugs in general i have a problem with, i suppose it depends on how you are using it and whether or not you think things are bugs or not, or even if you notice them.
live 4 still has bugs in it that is my point.
remeber im not talking specifically about drop outs and performance
peace.

i see, and i want you to know that the point i was making was in the time Live 4.1 went to Live 5, there were 4 bug fix updates and more bugs were fixed and improvements made than you could count on 10 hands.Cryptic UK wrote: live 4 still has bugs in it that is my point.
and this was the same amount of time (around 6 or 7 months) that we will see between the so-called "announcement" of Live 6 @ NAMM and its actual release.
i mean 5.2 isn't even out yet and you have no idea how many bugs will or won't be fixed in that update. So why the knee-jerk reaction to tell v.6 to f*** off ?
This isn't about patience, though a little of that certainly wouldn't hurt. Its about looking at the history and knowing that updates and fixes are constantly being made.
you can't name me an application that was bug-ridden at the time of an announcement of a next major relase. SX2 to SX3.
Logic 6.4 to Logic 7, etc. etc.
There is not a DAW in the world that you can buy without bugs, and all of them will ask you to pay for an upgrade that gives you new features before all the bugs are ironed out.
So, i think its only fair that you change the title of this thread to:
fuck off DAWs and the entire software industry that gives us the new features we ask for and pay for, but always contains bugs in some way or another
that'd be fair.

yeah, i learned this the hard way. the extremely hard way. bought a g5 quad core with 8 gigs of ram, thinking it was my laptop's fault that live slowed down. apparently it was live's fault that live slowed down. so now i have to use protools if i want to do anything processor intensive. what a waste. granted, i am doing a LOT (vst plugins, midi playback to various external keyboards, rewiring reason and melodyne, etc), but still. the main reason i bought this computer was so that this wouldn't happen.Nod wrote:I hasten to add this isn't just on one system - as I've seen it on quite a few machines where it's actually been my recommendation to the user to buy Live for it's amazing creative possibilities.

In June when 6 comes out you're guaranteed to get at least double performance though... hopefully more, depends on how future proof Ableton are making their multiple processor performance.snowtires wrote:\
