oh man.....you'll get a million different opinions

I'd suggest looking at the Live 5 Performance tests to start, look what scores high and what you can afford.
.asus cetrino lappy 2.0Ghz 2x7200 internal drives, 2GR
.carillion desktop AC-1 P4 1.86, 786RAM
.live 5, wavelab, cubase, reason, waves
.fender, gibson and danelectro guitars
.keybaords and other things electronic

I would go dual core AMD 64's. I eventually am going to do what you are doing so I don't know too much more, but I would say the AMDs for now, and 64 so that you can utilize when the time comes, though in the offing.

Good luck.

AMD Dual Core on ASUS motherboard SLI Deluxe or above

1 Sata drive for OS/apps

2 more Sata drives in Raid 0 config for audio

at least 2 gigs of GOOD Ram

RME interface.

If you want I can give you my model numbers, this setup is working great. Tonight I'm changing over the audio harddrive to a RAID 0 setup, once I'm done, I'll post the performance test results.

I'd like the model numbers, please. I'm not familiar with the AMD stuff, but I think I'd like to build another machine soon....

TIA,
