Yes!! More MIDI functions

Post by smclellan » Thu Feb 16, 2006 7:45 pm

Hi all,
Very much enjoying Live 5. A great leap from Live 4 - I'm glad I made the jump.

I understand that to keep Live stable, clean and easy, we can't have everything. ;-)

I miss some of the functionality from Cubase and Sonar, but not the clunkiness and instability of Cubase in particular.

I would love to see more MIDI functionality, like more MIDI effects. I would like to see a plugin that you could pull up to audition patch changes, or read a user supplied map. Maybe this would be as easy as adding an 'audition headset' icon that when engaged, you could toggle through patches as well as from the pop up menu.

Perhaps a velocity 'compressor / limiter / gate / expander' .

How about some kind of mapper plugin, where you can map CCs or other info to other data.

Thanks!

It would be great if there were to be support for MIDI plugins like Sonar has, there is a lot of great MIDI plugins allready developed.

This would be somewhat easy to implement and would allow the developers to spend more time squasching bugs.

Here's an article about them:

I agree, not enough midi control. I cannot even route the mod wheel where I want to, we need a midi filter plug at least.

I agree that more functionality is good.

And there definitely seems to be some wonkiness with bank/patch changes on clips. Maybe it's just the softsynths that I've tried to use it with.

But, Live certainly *does* support MIDI VST plugins, but not MFX plugins... so, yea, that would be good functionality to add. And it comes installed with a MIDI compressor/limiter/gate. Also, I'm pretty sure you can map any CC to any Live parameter... it's a pretty big headline feature, so I'm a little confused by that request. You can only map one CC to one thing, which I don't like and added a wishlist post for that.

if you say so..... never succeeded myself, if I put a midi vst in a track I cannot put a vsti after it.... maybe thru routing? I tried but never succeeded... can you give me an exemple of a midi vst doing its job in Live?

...and the discussion is more about midi functions that operate on a midi track data like in some other software.

but for real-time midi filtering:
...can you tell me, if you make a split with synth A and B, how can your mod wheel affect just one synth? and that is pretty simple.

Chordspace appears to work. But its the only one I can make work.

All the others I have tried appear to Live as VSTi, and therefore require an audio output... :?

This is a shame, because I need to run midiox to filter out all notes off from my Roland master keyboard. A midi plug would be able to do this within Live.

Better still would be to include a way to filter off extraneous midi messages within a midi properties in the options menu.
