Help please- Laptop & Digi 001 box with Live 5
Hello
I'm new to the board but read it all the time and thought you guys would be clued up and could please help me out.
I have a mac G4 with pro tools but to be honest it has started to do my head in. So recently i bought a HP Pavilion dv8025 Notebook and Live 5 and was wondering if its possible to connect this laptop with a Digi 001 box?
Thanks Very Much in Advance

Thanks for the help
Iam searching the web for converters and wires which isn't the most fun i've had on the internet but needs must. Still a little confused as to what I'm looking for though
Really hope it is possible as it seems like a waste, since the digi 001 is pretty good.
Maxi if you dont mind me asking what did you replace it with?

Hi,
You'll need something like this:
Magma
You can actually find them pretty cheap sometimes on the Digi DUC.
But make sure the version of PT you want to use still supports the 001. The 001 stopped working with PT after 6.4.

I was actually going to completely forget about pro tools and just run ableton with the digi 001 on the laptop, as my pro tools is ancient.
Also Iam not sure if i'm looking at the right thing but does the converter cost $1000? would i not be cheaper just getting something new completely?

Sell your 001 (I just got $350 CAD) for mine, probably could have got a bit more but I wanted a quick sale, get yourself an mbox if you don't need the extra i/o (or something similar if you don't need protools) or look at motu's new mini interface, there is a thread about it here:

if you have some money to spend consider a motu traveller or one of the RME interfaces.

Yeah,
I agree with LJ.
If you don't need PT just dump the 001, walk right on past the MBox and find yourself a really GOOD CardBus/PCMCIA set-up.
I'm on Mac but if I was a PC I think I would check out the EMU card. And definitely RME as well.
I'm sure others here have different experiences but I'm just not sold on Firwire/USB intefaces. There always seems to be so much latency and instability involved.
They're difinitely workable (I use FW M-Audio when I'm out and about) but I don't know... I used to use a portable TDM set-up (Magma/Mix) and it was so solid and stable.
Good luck,
R.
