Ok i have had this soundcard for a while..... It works fine with Ableton but with other applications like quick time & windows media player a get lots of crack, hiss & pops all the time and the tempo of the music drops... Why would this happen?? I have installed the latest drivers but just cant figure it out...

Anyone else have this problem??

I am running it off an Acer Travelmate Laptop btw.. Intel Centrin 1.6GHz......

I don't have an Indigo, but I do have an echo PCI card -- my guess is that you'll find your fix in the echo console settings. Check and see whether you have the card set to only output sound in 24bit (there's a checkbox to lock the bitrate on my console). Quicktime & WinMP (and pretty much anything not an audio program) output 16bit soundl, so if you had it locked at 24bit everything else would slow down a fair amount.

If you don't keep the bitrate locked it the card will just adapt its bit-depth as necessary.

That's just a guess. The ECHO folks are pretty on it, so give 'em a call or shoot an email if that isn't the problem.

it could be one of two things.

either the buffer setting are to low and they need to be increase in the preferences.

or

when i got mine it ran like a pig. i had to download a patch - not just the latest driver. it was something to do with the type of bus in the card slot. ran that and its worked like a treat ever since.

i got the link of someone one this forum. do a search for indigo and nuperspective and see what comes up.

Had this problem with a new laptop, except that it happened for every program including Live...worked fine before but not again! Not to dishearten you but it's not cleared up despite updating everything in sight...bought another soundcard in the end

You want to go to Echo site and get the ENE cardbus application they have there. Certainly PCM slots on laptops enable what is called PCM prefetch, which causes symptoms like you describe. This little app Echo wrote lets you turn this off and all should be well.

Yeah got that patch alright.... and I do have an ENE cardbus but when i tryed to run it it wouldnt let me saying it didnt detect one of cardbus's specified or something to that effect... Will give Bathyscaf's idea a try and see what happens....

I'm looking to buy an interface (got a tablet/laptop), and was looking at the Indigo IO -- how is the sound quality on your DJ?

I have the IO and DJ, both have excellent sound quality for the money. The Emu 1616m or RME Fireface are the only ones I can think of that might sound better for laptops, though they are considerably more.

I'm seriously looking at the 1616m as well. It's just a pisser that CardbusII has been superceded, so if I bought any of these cards they would be useless if I got a next gen laptop. So my choices are:

bite the bullet and go for the EMU
get an Indigo IO to minimize the overall cost of the next upgrade
get a firewire interface (which one?)

Sadly, I haven't seen a firewire interface with the same quality/pricepoint as any one of those CardBus cards.

RME Fireface is THE firewire audiocard IMO, just excellent quality if you want a truly futureproof top of the line system.

The 1616's do have some future, as the cardbus piece disconnects, and you can also use the external dock with a PCI card too if I remember correctly. So if cardbuss II goes bye bye, hopefuly Emu makes something compatible to connect the 1616 dock to.
