Problems with Reason latency in Rewire

Post by Janosax » Wed Feb 08, 2006 4:30 pm

Hi from France 8)
I'm new here and have a first question.
With Live 5.01/02/03 and Reason 2.5, when automatic delay compensation is activate and when I've got some plug'ins on (audio) channels, my reason monitoring has got big latency. And if I edit a clip with the mouse this latency is here too in simple playback. The solution is to enter a negative latency on the rewire monitor channel in Live like -1.00 and like that it's ok. BUT when I record reason in an audio clip it's not recorded at the beginning of the clip. So I'm forced to record the audio rewire with automatic delay compensation desactivate. Really not very fast method, but like that it's works. In Live 4 there was no problem. I use Reason like a sounds expander for Live and record loops and other immediatly in Live. So the method is too slow to works great
Some solutions?

Yes, its bad isn't it. I am hoping that this will be sorted out at some point in the near future, maybe even for 5.2...

Plug-in delay compensation [PDC] does not work with rewire inputs. The track delay setting doesn't work either for rewire inputs, so you can't even manually compensate for it.

Even with PDC off there is still some lag if you use Live's midiclips to control Reason.

The solution appears to be control Reason with its own sequencer and devices and turn PDC off in Live at all times. However, if you are using long VST effect chains for your audio, then you will notice them lagging behind Reason. This happened in Live 4 too I would have thought, but if you only use Live's own plugins then the delays are very small.

Or you could do what I do and refuse to use Reason whilst using Live. I do all my Reason stuff in Reason and then export to wav. Paste these into Live and play.

Hello!!
I've got the same problems with Vst'i: with lot of plugins used in Live, Vst-i are not playable in real time, because of a very big latency. The different latency settings make no difference  No problems in Live 4, it works great. Known issue???

I've been finding this with 5.2 - it's made Rewire almost unusable. Has there been any workaround found, or does Live 6 fix it?

Is this true? Is there no solution in any of the current versions?
