CPU goes through the roof! Please Help!!!

Post by rbro » Sat Feb 25, 2006 11:38 pm

I'm running Live 5 on my 1.25 GHZ Powerbook G4, with 1GB RAM. I am using Native-Instruments Guitar Rig 2 for guitar tones. The foot pedal for the GR2 is also a pre-amp and USB interface, so I am using that as well. I dropped a tabla loop that I had from Garageband in there and laid down a rhythm guitar track. That went fine, but as soon as I tried to lay down another guitar track over that, my CPU went nuts. I tried "freezing" both tracks, but still no luck. Now I can't even listen to the 2 tracks that are there without my CPU going past 100%. ANy ideas what I can do? Ideally I'd like to be able to lay down 4-6 guitar tracks, along with bass and drums and eventually keyboards and vocals, but I am pretty discouraged right now. Any ideas on what I can do to maximize my cpu usage? I know I can always buy more ram and/or a faster machine, but that's not gonna happen for a while, so........any other suggestions?

Try to make low the latency,or load the small samples to Ram,or render the midi tracks as audio, because the plug ins uses lots of CPU power.Freezing is good.
Hope that helps.
Cheers.
