Anyone thinking of moving to macIntel?

Hi everyone. I bought a Mac Intel at the end of January and it was one of the hardest technology decisions I have made. I'm glad I did it though, I was lucky enough to be in a position to buy it. I've always used Windows before, except when I was studying production at college we had dual G5's and Logic Pro.

So, for those who are conidering the switch, I am offering to test anyones sets/tunes for comparison to their current systems. This will hopefully give an insight into whether or not the switch will be worth it at the minute. I wish I could have done this before I bought, for me it was a bit of a gamble.

the main reason that stops me to go to mactel is the cost of changing softwares from windows version .

Which software is it that's putting you off? The crossgrades seem relatively inexpensive when you consider the amount of work that's been put in to make them compatible.

For me, the only drawback is running cracked software. I simply won't do it on Mac. But that forces me to slimline my whole system which means I've been more productive. Being a student, I get good discounts on the software as well. For example, Macromedia studio 8 cost £79, MS Office cost about £70 and ableton crossgrade will be about £30. At least I can now support the developers who have helped me.

I'm going for a new macbook pro, but I'm going to wait until my vsts (mostly NI) have been ported over to the macintels. So yeah, I'll probably be purchasing one in the next 2-4 months.

I can't wait...

I'm leaning that way. People seem to be having no problems with it so far, and over at the logic forum, they definitely scream when stuff doesn't work right. Seems like all that talk about first generation being lemons may not be too accurate this time, but time will tell. Everything is being ported quickly as well. Stylus rmx has already released an update, logic's there, ableton almost. Most of N.I. will be over in a month or two, at least the most important ones for me (Reaktor, Absynth, kontakt, fm7, guitar rig -second quarter).

I was leaning towards going pc centrino for a while, but transferring logic songs to ableton would just be a pain, so it's looking like a macbook. Besides, by the time you can actually get one in Canada, N.I. will probably have ported most stuff over.
And actually, the thought of having a slightly more stripped down setup actually appeals to me for a while, to really get to know ableton and operator alone for a few months while waiting for N.I. stuff to continue in my logic songs (which use those plugs a fair bit).

But I've been back and forth quite a bit lately. I wanted to get to know windows more, but I've finally got my system set-up how I want it, and I think I'll stay put with OSX. I don't think the intel jump will be too treacherous. Just my opinion.

What's up with that? I thought apple released them everywhere...why wouldn't I be able to go to my local apple store and purchase a macbook pro in Canada?

I think they are available all around the world now.

Well, technically sure, but so far 70 macbook pros have been shipped to Canada, or so I've been told by one store that is about to recieve 7 of them (but hasn't yet). Another mac store I've visited has received one so far and has taken over 50 orders for them, so I wouldn't say that I can exactly walk into a store and buy one just yet, and it ain't gonna happen tomorrow either.

Maybe it's different elsewhere, dunno.

But before you buy a macpro have a look at Adadm jay performance test and you will see the old pc's performs better long time ago.If you want to spend 2000$ for a macpro to run just live think 2 times.

Why does everybody think September for a new version of the macbook?

I'm thinking by June Apple will have the 17" model out, and maybe NI will have ported most of their stuff.... a dual 2Ghz will suffice me for a long time.

My only sadness is that my Waldorf Attack and PPG Wave will not be ported....

I wish somebody would have bought out Waldorf's software division at the least when they went under. It's enough to seriously make me think about buying a roll your own PC for the studio.
