help! deleted ableton project ( os x ) cant recover

Post by aegez » Tue Feb 28, 2006 8:33 pm

somehow i've managed to delete an ableton .als and it's sounds.. i've just tried using "data rescue II" to try and find it... yet i it wasnt able to find the .als files, i believe because data rescue II doesnt recognize the ableton filetype.. only more common files.

has anyone had success recovering projects, any recommendations?

thanks

I've been there. I once lost over a month's work. I back up every day now. Hard drives are dirt cheap.

There are various recovery tools to try. Google around. I've had good luck with Norton Unerase. The more you use that drive, though, the less your chances of recovering your data.

the problem im finding is most of these products only support certain filetype scans... so a .als will be invisible to them, have you recovered a .als with norton?

thanks for your suggestion and help.

I haven't had to use Unerase for a long time, but from what I can remember, it works best if you're got it running continuously. However, even if you're not running it continuously, it can still recover any files, as long as they're not overwritten with subsequent data. If you want to get your files back, try to do the recovery as soon as possible. If you're really desperate, you can send your drive to a data recovery specialist.
