Neodynium sidechain compression in live

Post by feyshay » Thu Mar 02, 2006 5:04 am

I seem to be able to get the side chain compression working with the Golden Audio Channel, but can't get it working with neodynium.
I don't see a Neodynium sidechain output available when I route from my sidechain track to the neodynium track. I also don't see sidechain options in my key input for neodynium.
Anybody have neodynium, using it in Live with sidechain compression working?

I've had it working in LIve 4 before. I just routed the output from an audio file into "Neodyinium" instead of "track in". And in Neodynium you need to set your key input to "Side Chain".. if you're can't select the side-chain, something's up...

One problem was that the side-chain input then couldn't be heard in the mix as it was only used to duck the compressor. I didn't seem to work the same way Logic does it.

Also, I couldn't get this to work for Master channel, which sucked big fat donkey balls.

Anyone else had much experience with this? Seems like a useful feature.,...

Something is definitely up because I did not have any Neodynium output options in External out. I did not have the side chain option show up in the stereo version of Neodynium key input (only L, R and L and R).
Frustrating, considering I got things working with the sidechain with the Golden Audio Channel.
I'll try working on it further tonight.
I'm using Live 5.
Anybody having Neodynium sidechain working within Live 5?

Hi feyshay. Try setting it up like this.

If that doesn't work, what version of Neodynium are you using? What OS?

I'm using Neodynium 1.0.3 and Live 5.02. No sidechain option on my key input no matter what I do. Very disappointing. I'm wondering why tumult appears to have it working and gets the Neodynium sidechain input key input option.

Strange, I'm using the same versions on both Ableton and Neodynium as you. You aren't loading a mono version of the plugin or something are you?

Wow. Same versions. Now, I'm jealous.
I tried it with the 1 and 2 channel versions of Neodynium. In the 1 channel version, I only have one option in the key input (again no sidechain option).
Of course, I don't get the Neodynium 3/4 option under Neodynium 3.
I have a question into Elemental Audio. I'll see how their customer service is.

I'm guessing the sidechain is only available in the AU version of Neodynium? I'm on 1.0.3 Windows/VST and I don't get the option either :(

Answer from Elemental Audio.

Below is the reply from Elemental Audio. Pretty quick response. Hopefully they'll follow through with their plans to implement sidechaining for the VST version.

-----------------

Thanks for writing. I am happy to address this issue for you. Neodynium does support sidechain compression in the Audio Unit and RTAS plug-in formats. Sidechain compression is not yet available in the VST version of Neodynium, however, we do have plans to add VST sidechain support in a future version of Neodynium. When sidechain support was originally added to Neodynium there was inconsistent sidechain support in VST hosts and many hosts did not support sidechains at all. In lieu of adding sidechain support that did not work in many VST hosts, we chose to forgo adding VST sidechain support at that time. However, now that more and more VST hosts seem to be adding sidechain support in a standard way, we are looking closely at adding VST sidechain support in the near future.

I have noted your interest in VST sidechain support so your thoughts can be considered as we plan future Neodynium versions. If you have any other questions, or we can be of any additional service to you, please let us know. Thanks, again, for writing; we appreciate your continued support.
