Soft Synths that aren't CPU hogs
Sorry to start another VST thread, but I am looking for specific opinions. I use Live on my iBook 933. A a result, I don't have much room to spare CPU wise.
Obviously, some VSTs eat more than others. Korg Legacy comes to mind as does the MiniMoog V from Arturia.
Albino seems a little less greedy as does the Pro-53.
Any suggestions of good VSTs that aren't going to make my iBook tap out?
Thanks.
Mitch

Microtonic for drums is quite light on the CPU

Absynth is surprisingly low on my cpu and sounds phenomenal. impOSCar is also really efficient and sounds awesome.
1.7 Pentium M IBM Thinkpad with XP Pro SP2; MOTU 828mkII; Trigger Finger; Live 5; Reason 3.0; lots of soft synths and plugs; Guitar Rig 2; Motif 7; Nord Lead 2; PRS McCarty, Fender, Am std Strat; Larrivee D-03; a bunch of outboard gear; and cheap wine.

Minimonstah
The Ohm Force/G-media Minimonstah - I've had 5 running at the same time (haven't tried more). It'll start sucking up the CPU if you raise the # of voices past 8 or so -- well, it deoends on the settings. It's a minimoog emulator that also allos each parameter to be assigned an LFO, ADSR envelope and more. I love it (I love all Ohm Force stuff, though).

yes definitely. amazing sound for such low CPU consumption. brilliant imo.
also:
z3Ta+. incredible, rich, diverse sounds, 6 ocillators, amazing sounding effects and options .... same thing. super efficient. dont know how they do it.

Operator patches are relative. You can have patches that use only 2% cpu. Or you can have patches that use up all your cpu.zfigz wrote:
Operator that is...it's priced relatively well and it's optimized for live.
Anyone else use operator? How are the sounds and does it take a big bite out of the cpu?
thanks
It's all about voicecount and release time......
