impossible to assign ALL knobs of a vst to midicontroller?

Post by scyhte » Sat Mar 04, 2006 7:58 am

hello everybody,
im new here and this is my first post here. but lets come straight to the point.
i have a problem that detains me from using my favourite vst drummachines in live (sr-202, micro tonic, some made with reaktor).
live only displays 128 slots for the midi-assignable controls (by clicking the arrow on the upper side of the plugin), but some vst's seem to need more space to display all the values. for example the sr-202 drummachine where its controls/values are only displayed till "pan5". but that plugin has got 16 sample slots.:? i need to control at least the pitch-,mute, and gate knobs for 8 samples, but it doesn't seem to be possible.
this shit is going to drive me mad as i still have to use reason as rewire drummachine but i want to get rid of it.
any suggestions?

cheers, jens

Hi and welcome!

As of now - Live only gives you access to the 128 first VST parameters. Sorry! I'll quote myself from another post:
This has been answered by Frank Hoffman (I think). He states that it's not likely that Live will ever be able to adress more than 128 at one time. It's possible, though, that you can choose which 128 parameters to control from withitn Live in a future update.

Mikael

ok, thanks for your quick answer.
i really hope the guys at ableton are realizing such a function soon.
its annoying that i cannot use my favourite plugins in live :(
i dont bought it yet, but things like this don't really convince me to do this. otherwise its an almost perfect software for me and i would hate to have to use another one. :-/

On the other hand...

In Reaktor you can change the parameter IDs of your controls. Say for example that in a given ensemble filter frequency is parameter 176. The ID can be changed to #1 to be accessible from within Live. I think that's unique for Reaktor, though...

no that´s not unique to reactor, you can changes this e.g.
for the ohmboyz plugs, too.

Well, this is disappointing. Now I understand why a lot of the parameters on my Arturia CS80V are missing.

Ableton need to realise that plugin synths are only going to get more powerful and more complicated, and a 128 parameter limit is already too small for many of them.

Having said that, the ability to choose *which* 128 parameters were available would be a satisfactory middle ground for now.
