Korg EMX recording midi issues
Hey whats up,was wondering if any of you guys having the same problem that im currently having .. Im having issues trying to record midi notes from the EMX . i have everything hooked up like this.
1) K Emx midi " in" to soundcards " out "
2) k Emx midi " out " to soundcard's "in "
3) set korgs midi clock sync to " ext"
Then In Live , it's set up " Midi from " USB audio " & Midi to " delta ap midi"...this should work , cos i can manually write in midi notes in lives midi clip .. and itll play the korg which is fine for now,, but i have patterns i want to record midi into live.. the problem is i cant get my" delta ap midi" soundcard to show up in my midi channel " midi from" section ..
In my live preferences/ Midi sync / input I have track , sync & remote all enabled.. and its all greyed out.. if i turn off one of the 3 options off, then itll pop up in my preferences but not in lives " Midi from " .
last option i tried switching midi cables and still the same deal,, do you guys think it might be my " midi out " cable port thats defected.. hope its not that, prob take a long time get this sorted ..
Any suggestions would help , thanks in advance!
Oh yeah my souncard is a Audiophile2496.

What do you really want to do ? please say more clearly.
First of all I would rather set Live to ext and Korg be the master. Then Korg midi out to Soundcard midi in. Choose the track in Live and record.
However I woudnt do it this way since the whole midi timing is too sloppy for me . I rather record as audio and then correct it which is mostly necessary.
It is already bad with VSTs, external midi controlled.... let us say mis controlled by Live, actually any DAW for that matter.

hey thanks for the reply, ill explain clearly here..
I know i can record audio but thats not what im after, its the part where i want to record the midi notes coming from the korg into live that wont work.. seems that live " midi from " midi channel will not bring up my soundcard for some reason.. ide rather try midi notes than warping audio and i can always quantize the notes to be exact..
You see one of my friends has one and is able to record his emx into live , we both have the same soundcard and shows up in his " midi from " midi channel.. Just looking to see if anyone out there who owns a korg emx1 is having the same issues that i am.. i want to make sure that my midi out , the part where cable plugs into, isnt defect or damaged..
ill give it a try again, and will post back,, thanks for the reply.

Hey rikhyray,
yeah ive switched my midi cables & re installed the drivers for my delta 2496,and i still cant get my soundcard delta to show up in the " midi from" midi channel..why is this happening ?
Would if have to do with having live 4.0 , 4.1,5.01 and 5.02 on my pc, which by the way , ive been meaning to ask if its ok to get rid of them since i only run 5.02..

heres a pic of whats going on.. like i said before in my preferences if i turn off one of the following, track sync or remote, my delta ap midi appears, but not in my "midi from" midi channel...
anything else that i could try out?

u do have the track record enabled, right?
id leave the midi track set to "All midi ins."
can u plug another midi device into the midi input, to make sure its not the korg that is the issue?
eliminate that varaiable.
oh and btw, if youre doing this all in session view, if i remember correctly, you cannot record external CC's directly into a clip slot...(there are workarounds, though.) if so you should try it all in arrange (although in session you should still see the meters light up indicating its recieving midi.)

my favorites at the moment: MASSIVE. FM8. LIVE 6. Bome's Pro. KORE.
You dont have to delete old live versions, I cannot imagine it could matter in this case.
Why dont you try with some other midi interface, so that you can see if it is delta or Korg problem. Since it works for your friend try recording on his computer with your MX- to be sure that it is not your MX midi problem, though to me it looks like your midi interface fault
Midi is very inaccurate in general, so if timing is important converting to audio is always better, at earlier or later stage, I am behind with current work (theater score) tso didnt have time yet to experiment with recording MX midi into Live.

Thanks for the suggestions Rikhyray & Ben _blue !
well i just found that its not my Korg emx, thank god! Did a test on Cubase sx which i rarely use , seems to record midi from korg fine , but like you said before the timing is a lil bit off, quantizing would do the trick here .So for now im just export the midiclips and importing them back into live.
soo the problem is def Live not recognising my " delta " in midi/sync input..
another thing ive tried since i keep getting the message " the midi ap delta could not be activated, it may be in use by another application..you might awnt to rescan....etc " like in the picture above.. Since i do have 2 other hosts apps( sonar and cubase), went in both thier preferences to disable the " delta midi " just too see if it would show back up in live's midi /sync input... no luck there neither..
Prob at this point ill have to send ableton an email about this, but for now im using cubase for recording midi..
Glad its working for you bro! Im also intersted in using Korg as an fx module for audio too.. has audio inputs , you should def try that out yourself..
thanks again for the help!

OK im in the Korgs " MidiUtiliy" and its blinking,, i dont see where i can change it from xxxx to oooo .. ah wait ,ok there it is .yeah mine's set to "oooo" too..I tested it and worked fine both directiona - rec and playback but attention in my case it didnt work initialy since I had MX midi fliter set to xxxx, then changed to oooo , check it press Midi>shift+midiutility>midi filter
I hope that was the case.

BTW blinking in MX is like asking you, so you press to confirm. Reading manual wont hurt you.It is rather clear except I still have no idea about the audio in comb thingy, it isnt explained anywhere.
