Does anybody have problems when using live 4 and the m-audio 410 box disconnects often? Displays Failed to open audio asio.
Yeah, on PC...And yeah I also have PCI adaptor for the firewire using the bigger self powered port (is that 4 pin?) but I am not talking about the cable disconnecting, just the 410 ASIO driver probably failing and reseting itself causing Live to fail and pops up an error message to restart the program.

This may be due to some IRQ issues. This is a problem that only happens in the PC realm way more often than it should. One of the symptoms is that processor intensive devices (FW 410) will intermittantly be detected by the computer. Visit MusicXP.net for PC tuning tips to maybe get around this.

PCMCIA/FW adapter ? didnt know about tghat.. i'm gonna try it
Geo: u just have to restart Live ? or windows ? mine, when gets disconnected, seems also like a driver problem.. cause the blue light is still there... but i have to shut down my comp, disconnect the FW cable, reconnect it and turn the pc on again... (or, i can do the same thing without having to shut down my pc, just turning off the soundcard... but i think that is not too safe that way, or is it ?)

...and the card seems to reset itself, u know with all the lights blinking in order till the blue light stays on, meaning it gets reconnected again...If you think it's a driver problem for you, try downloading the latest drivers from M Audio if you haven't done so. Apart from that, I don't know what els, I will investigate the IRQ issues even though I have the feeling it's not that, I hope I will be proven wrong!
i've downloaded them already... the problem is still there... i dont think neither that it could be an irq problem, but im gonna check it out when i get back home (travelling with my PB now). i let u know if i find something (i had also emailed m-audio support already).

The reason the new card worked is because Windows can assign a new IRQ to that card when you install it. IRQ issues are unfortunately very common with Windows. When computers are mass produced they simply pass by a mother computer that ghosts the operating system onto their drives. This means that Windows never really gets a chance to assign its resources (IRQs) properly. This is why its always a good idea to reinstall Windows when you get it preinstalled on your machine.
I have a self-installed and optimized windows on my laptop and I've ever had the very same problem with every single program (not just Live). I emailed M-Audio but as you could imagine... no reply.. (damn M-Audio support! ).
I'm quite sure it is an internal electrical problem: when I switch a small lamp plugged in nearby where my laptop is plugged in I almost always get that disconnection... (and of course that happens also in other circumstances). Consider that my wiring is completely new and my house was built 4 years ago!
The blue light is there... I sometime can unplug the AC adapter to get the the 410 to reset and start working again. But some programs like Sonar completely hang and if you try to forcedly close it, my laptop resets... that's really enjoyable!
Does anybody have the same issue powering the 410 from a 6pin firewire?
that's would mean that the problem is in the IC of the 410 and that would be a bad bad thing (damn M-Audio!!!). Otherwise it should be a problem with the AC adapter...
