Multi-channel midi clips - for full expressivity

Post by audiosapien » Fri Mar 10, 2006 11:32 am

I love sample libraries that use the the midi channel of a note to indicate its expression or quality e.g. upstoke, downstroke, glissando, muted, pizz, heavy vibrato. I also program multi-timbral synths with slightly dissimilar patches across several channels, perhaps using different vowels in a vowel filter or more or less delay/distortion/portamento to get expression from a melodic line.

My greatest wish would be for Live to support setting the midi channel of each note in a clip (in a very similar to setting the velocity) which would allow a far greater range of expression from modern sample libraries and multi-timbral synths. Spreading a single melodic line over 6 or 7 midi clips seems difficult and silly.

I'm a long time Logic user who is very tempted by the possibilities of Live Clips (and very impressed with the innovation of Live) but can't give up this essential capability. Roll on v6!
