Ableton with Acoustic Drums

Post by ianmgull » Tue Mar 07, 2006 12:30 am

I am attempting to use Live 5.0 with my band who has a human (not ape) drummer. I have an m-audio ozone controller with two main outputs and a headphone output.

I need a way to run a metronome out of the headphone jack to the drummer while leaving the sound to the main outputs unaffected.

I have a 3.6Ghz 2mg RAM Hp Zd8000.

I am fairly new to Live and am a bit confused about how to route these sorts of things.

I have a show in 1 month and have to figure all this out! Any help would be wonderful.

Thanks!

Hi Ian,

You can't seperate the headphone/outputs on the Ozone as it's only got 2 output channels.

You would need a four channel device.

Example: 1-2 Main Outs, 3-4 Headphones.

I think you might be able to use 2 mono sends 1 Front of House, 2 Drummer but then, well, it's mono.

Don't know if that would work for you though.

Hello,

you could send a MIDI click track out of the MIDI-port to the drummer. The drummer then needs a sound module with a MIDI input (e.g. small dr machine as BOSS Dr-5, ...) and a headphone output. So the drummer could select his favourite click sound. The MIDI click track could be more complex than a simple 1/4 click, maybe a groove ...

agrrrr!!!! damn technology with its fangled twirly-bots!!!

Thanks all. I'm thinking the midi out solution seems like a good idea(although it means lugging more gear) as for a mono mix that's not too big a concern for me. would anyone here know how to route the outputs individually??

thanks again

1. Preferences, Out Config, 1 (mono) & 2 (mono).

2. Each individual channel, Audio to, Ext. Out, Choose channel 1 or 2.

Then...

3. Read the manual.
