Serious Latency problem with Digi 002

Post by RawTheory » Fri Mar 10, 2006 10:57 pm

I've been dealing with this Latency for months and I'm totally fed up. I've gone through the Latency compensation tutorial multiple times and still the same result of 1ms latency which isn't even supposed to be detectable. I've input that 1ms latency into the overall latency setting in the preferences menu and it changes NOTHING. I only get latency when trying to record audio from an external source like a mic or a guitar, not from Rewire using Reason 3. I own Pro-Tools 6.7 and latency is non-existent in that program. Does anyone else use Live 5 with the Digi 002 audio interface? What are your experiences like? Does Live 5 have a problem with the hardware? I seriously need advice here.

Same thing here. Mac Powerbook with 2gig ram, 1.67 Ghz. The 002 is unusable to record with in Live. I have to switch to one of my motu cards to get anything reasonable.

No way..... I've been waiting for a confirmation of this problem. Thank you so much for replying! This really sucks though. Ableton are you listening? These two people own Digi 002s and would like to swich totally to Live if only the recording worked with better latency compensation.

And by the way, how good is the quality recording in Live with a MOTU card compared to the Digi 002 in Pro-Tools?

Hi RawTheory & bildeaux,

when you record an external input do you have to set the monitoring to "Off" on the recording track? Because the overall latency only affects recording tracks with monitoring set to "Off" but not with monitoring set to "In" or "Auto".

regards,
/Alex

no i always record with it set to "on" or "auto". And I see no point in setting it to "off" because i would get no sound if I did that. What I believe we have here is a fundamental problem in compatability between the Digi 002 and Live 5. Its is very disconcerting to me to think I'm going to have to drop hundreds more dollars on a new audio interface of the same caliber as the 002 to be able to accomplish my live jam recordings in Live 5. I feel really let down, but I'm not going to stop using Live because I've become so accustomed to its ease of workflow. I don't have time to wait for the Abletons to patch this problem and I have no guarantee that they even will for the select few of us that own a Digi 002 and use Live 5.

Hi,

I think Alex is right dude.

I had the same problem...Two signals, one from the 002 and the other from Live. If you set the Monitoring to 'Off' you can still hear the instrument through the 002.

I've found this has solved the problem for me...albeit an annoying one that shouldn't really be there.
