Edirol are LOOOOOOSERS
Edirol are LOOOOOOSERS
hi guys.
edirol just sucks so much...i would never buy one of their NOT at all supported products anymore....and they have absolutely terrible support people i think.
1. they claim the FA101 is NEW on their website ( i bought it 2004)
2. the problem with CPU usage of the FA101 is still not solved
3. driver version 1.0.0 since i bought it... and no update
i never had such a bad experience based on driver development. when i started with my terratec 1997 it was horrible till the first Asio drivers where working...but this FA101 even tops this!
cheerio...edirol has lost its respect from my side!
spacy

I would never buy computer related products from companies that never develop their drivers/softwares such as Edirol/yamaha.......im not afan of m-audio, but i know for sure they alway update their stuff to give it a long lifespam.Bong Sau wrote:Oh dear. A friend has just bought the 101![]()
Tis a shame as it looks like a good interface. How bad is the CPU hit? And what system are you using it with?
stop talking.....start working...

M-audio may be ahead on interface drivers, but M-audio hardware quality is not so great. My M-Audio ES88 (and Evolution MK461) Key controllers, that have never seen a gig, are in the repair shop right now. My Edirol PCR-30 keyboard, on the other hand, has been my suitcase companion on many flights, and has never had an issue. YMMV.
but what you are talking about is a midi keyboard.enzymex wrote:M-audio may be ahead on interface drivers, but M-audio hardware quality is not so great. I had an Fa 66, it looked really cool with the red colour, but the quality of sound was not great, there was no software mixer like the echo indigo or emu 1616m, and the rigid looks were not rigid.
I now have an E-Mu 1616m, this has clarity, volume, and quality completely unheard of by edirol.
I see edirol as a "no-frills" (all british will know what i mean) Roland, like packard bell is to HP, like panasonic is to technics, and like Live Lite 2 is to Live 5.
I also have a usb midi interface UMx1 and even that cant handle 3 controllers because when i use 3 it glitches, sticks and sends wrong info. nothing worse when on stage, when you want to turn track 6 up and the beat repeat on track 11 flips up to 24 on the grid.

my pcr-m30 works like a champ.. never needed support, because they have a ton of info, docs, drivers, etc on their site, and everything worked great!!!!! The midi editor is 10x easier than Evolution's.
I don't think you realize the Edirol is owned by Roland?! They're rock stars (metaphorically) and create great products.. everything by Edirol that i've come across is solid, and i would buy from them again in a heartbeat.
I would also like to point out that firewire on WinXP SP2 is fucked... I'm an IT consultant and have had many problems with dealing with firewire on my digi002, so i can tell you straight-up that it may not be a problem with drivers.
It may in fact be a problem with your system setup.
I know, i know... you may disagree with me, but trust me, i know what i'm talking. When I first got live, I had a huge problem with crackles. After doing 2 months of troubleshooting (literally, fucked... back and forth with Live support, and no one knew what the issue was caused by) I figured out that because my video card was pci and not agp, it was taking bandwidth from the firewire pci card in my desktop. As soon as i figured that out, Live has worked like a charm ever since. But it was definitely a huge hassle.
Seperately, i'd like to let you know that the SP2 firewire drivers are crap, and i've managed to keep my SP2 updated system using the SP1 firewire drivers, because they're faster and better. The SP2 firewire drivers ARE CRIPPLED INTENTIONALLY!.... Here's a previous post on the topic.. all the information for this particular problem is there, so i'm not going to bore you here with the details.

Here's the thing.. if you post your system specs, then i can probably help you troubleshoot your problem. But, unless you're a tech, even the support guys may not be able to help you (like support couldn't help me), and you don't need to go off half cocked when it might be an issue with your computers configuration.
sorry about your problems..

The FA101 is a larger version of the FA66, and i have got to say that i had no problems with it r no compatibilty issues.sonntagmittag wrote:sorry?!
FA 101 needs no update.
no problem here.
you should use good computerhardware = no problem
It was just a poor quality device.
I instantly noticed the clarity of the top end and the punchiness of the low end were lacking the kind that you get with an E-mu, or an Echo Indigo.
If a reletivly small company like Echo can do it, im sure that roland/edirol can do it, if they tried.
the echo costs half the price of the fa66, the emu 1616m cost 50% more.
The Fa101, costs nearly as much as an emu 1818m, why on earth would i want an fa101.
The simple answer is that edirol are cheap and cheerful, and do not aim at the pro market, only the novice market.
Roland aim at the pro market, thats why they invented edirol as a cheaper make.
I dont think people in this thread are complaining about hardware problems, crackles, etc etc, and i think everybody knows that edirol are made by roland.stinky wrote:my pcr-m30 works like a champ.. never needed support, because they have a ton of info, docs, drivers, etc on their site, and everything worked great!!!!! They are a cheap roland brand, if not then the equipment would cost more, and it would be roland branded.
The people here are complaining about the quality of edirol products, i can understand why edirol are not as good as others, but they try and pass themselves of as being a quality brand when they are not.
what you have above is
what you must also mean is Epiphone is owned by Gibson, therefore all epiphones are brilliant.I don't think you realize the Edirol is owned by Roland?!
WELL THEY ARE NOT.
as i said earlier
edirol = no frills roland, as does
packard bell is to HP,
like panasonic is to technics,
Live Lite 2 is to Live 5,
Epiphone to gibson,
cubase SE to SX
Logic express to Pro
It is simple. Edirol should not be selling adio interfaces at the price they do.
And we the public should not be buying them, there are better things for the same price.
I love my PCR-m1 controller, worked perfectly out of the box, one of the best mini controllers made. Sorry to hear about your 101 issues.

I have an E-MU 1820m, and you are right - it has great converters. However, in fairness, nothing offered by Edirol or M-Audio will touch it. IMO, only the Echo Audiofire and Mackie Onyx400F seem to be offering solid sonic competition to Emu in the sub $700 market.
Having said that, I don't think Edirol represents different quality than Roland. It's all top quality stuff from a build perspective, and the product lines don't overlap really.
