Loops not triggering

Post by Terry Mitchell » Thu Oct 09, 2003 1:07 am

since upgrading to Live 2.1 I've had problems with some loops consistently failing to trigger. I did not experience this with any of the 2.0 versions. It only happens to loops i'm triggering with the start marker mid way through the loop. If I nudge the marker to the start of the loop and then back again it plays perfectly for a while before it happens again. Very frustrating.
Does anybody else have this problem??

I'm running a pc 1800 with XP and Pro tools

Help.

Yeah I get similar problems (check my previous posts). It's made Live unusable for me in a live situation. I just can't track down the cause. Are you running Reason by any chance, or an Emagic interface?

Yes, I'm running Reason, Rebirth and cubase Sx in conjunction with Live. Its definately something to do with the upgrade to 2.1 as I've used all of the previous versions without a hint of this problem.

Does anyone at Ableton have any ideas???

Hi Terry,

at first please see Bernd's posting about the change we did from Live 2.0.3 to Live 2.1 regarding clip start offset:
http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4107

If you think it's not related to this issue, please explain me step by step what you did, what happend and what you expect. I know it's not so easy to descripe it in detail but otherwise it's easy mistakable.

just as an example, "trigger a clip" could mean:
- clicking with the mouse on the clips arrow
- pressing a key that assigned to the clip
- sending a MIDI event assigned to the clip
- ...

regards,
Alex

Hi Alex

Thanks for your prompt reply. I'm afraid this does not solve the problem.
When I say 'Trigger' a clip I mean by all methods. Midi, mouse, key etc. Like I said, the only time the malfunctioning clips work is when i 'nudge' the loop offset back to the start of the loop, play the loop and then move it back to its original offset position. All loops with the offset at the start of the clip (warp marker 1) play fine its just those I offset or those where I only play a middle or end portion that misbehave. This is happening to all sorts of clips, recorded and pre recorded.

This is a big problem for me. Do you have any ideas or will I have to downgrade??

Regards

Terry

Hi Terry,

I still don't get what exactly happens.

Let's assume you have a clip where the start marker is not at the beginning:

1) What are the settings of the clip? Warp on/off, Loop on/off?

2) What happens when the triggering failed?
- Is the green arrow flashing but the clip is not playing?
- Is the clip playing but you can't hear it?
- Is the clip playing but the wrong part of the clip or is a part missing?

You can also send me a short selfcontained Live set, whre you can say it happens at least sometimes.

regards,
Alex

Hi Alex

Thanks again for your prompt reply.

Ok I have both loop and warp on, quantization to global and its set to trigger.

The thing is when I first start to use the clips they are fine, then one will stop, i'll nudge it - fix it and it'll start happening on a different clip sometimes. They do actually trigger but only play for a millisecond and the arrow flashes green once for the duration of the sound.

I hope thats been more helpful.

Thanks

Terry
