Cant Dj my recorded vinyl but can with CD's

I am having real trouble Djing with live: I have been recording some of my vinyl into Logic then bouning it down and importing each whole track into Live5 as a clip. When itry to mix these they sound awful! some parts aer in time some out. I have messed about with warp markers but with no sucess. However last night i imported two tracks from different CDs Gorrillaz and Dr Dre, both at completely different speeds and they sounded brillaint together all the way through!!! Even when i flipped Lives cross fader gradually from A to B it sounded great.

What is going on?

Can anyone give me some advice.

practice warping : autowarp doesn't is not exact , if you want good results you need to warp manually .

Somebody sais that it was because i was recording my vinyl into Logic. Why would this cause a problem??

it's not logic, it's the vinyl. the timing will drift as you noted

how come it works fine for 'bought cds' and stuff i messed about with from the ipod?

Any ideas how to record my vinyl on to something else? Will is still drift even when quartz locked? Surely not enough to make the god awful noise it was producing lasr night!!

Must be a vinyl tempo problem. CDs doesn't drift (although the song might still drift of course).

Even though you might have quartz lock on, the platter's tempo may change a bit. You can actually see this with the stobe... A heavily weighted arm may also play a part in the time drift - The beginning of the track may well be slower than the center due to more pessure on the outside of the platter than the center.

Anyway. The Best bet is to warp manually from one chorus to the next. Start on the strongest downbeat and set warp markers every 4 bars... then move left to the beginning of the track in the same way.

It will eventually make itself clear.

Vinyl will always have smalls bows and wraps etc in it which will always create minor speed flucuations. This will never be the issue for CD's tho.

I think the only solution is to manually warp your entire track (with the metronome cranking) thru your entire vinyl track....... yes, sad but true

Curse the wow and flutter! No wonder my mixing was sh?%t on my decks!!

Is there any way to achieve good results without having to wrap marker the whole track?

Also, would anyone advise chopping up the tracvk into verses, chorus etc and Djing with those clips? Surely that would make the timing tighter, no? or is it common to warp the whole track. Q What do most people do? Or is it a case of different strokes for different folks

warp the whole track.
then create clips from that.
its all in the manual.
save yourself a lot of time, and read it. a few times.

If you warp the whole track and get the timing perfect (or as good as you can be bothered doing) then you can easily chop and change the track to your liking. If you do it like this it means that at any point in the future you want a specific loop from your track recorded from vinyl then the track is all good and ready to go. If you don't you will regret it later on.

What deck do you have ?

Technics have quartz locked direct drive and are very accurate. 0.002% wow and flutter

Any belt drive deck is going to be terrible by comparison.
Belt drive also depends on the stability of the mains 50Hz signal which is often 0.5% wow and flutter.
This can be solved with a mains frequency reclocker, but these cost £500+
I would suggest you purchase a Technics deck or equivalent.

Beleive me setting 10 warp markers per tune is a real pain. With a direct drive deck you should only need to set 1-3 markers.

Your current decks don't sound very accurate, I'm not surprised you have trouble mixing on them.

It's absolutely heartbreaking when an irreplacable piece of vinyl gets knackered. Gutted, but I feel for you.
