what's better? HW drum machine?or SW dum sampler/machine?

I still want a Virus TI and a easy hardware sampler to use for drums and loops and shit

Hands on control baby, instant satisfaction

me and my buddy were just talking about this - we were checking out Steve Rachmans studio on-line and he has all these synths and what not and my buddy was like wow!

Do we really need all that - and I had to say. some one like SR has been making music for years, alot longer than REASON has been out and you needed hardware stuff just to write a beat - over the years you accumulate synths, beat machines, samplers etc etc

then there's us...Ableton, a turntable, Albino, Reaktor and Simpler <<-->> perhaps Zeta and Vangaurd when I have the funds, until then...

but I'd love to have a Virus TI, Akai sampler running into a little 1202 or 1404 or running into something easy like a Digi001 so I can monitor the efx thru Ableton

one day, sooner rather than later I guess

Dj Adonis if you want a hardware sampler with LOADS of TWEEK and ease of use interface wise you really can't go past the EMU E64/6400 etc models.

Superb Emu Sound.
The internal virtual patchchord bay is fantastic and really felixble on a semi-modular level.
I cut my teeth on an EII+ HD though (which I still own).
The OS has been expanded on feature wise but I find the whole EMU workflow when it comes to sampling to be an absolute joy if you go the hardware route.
That said I would SERIOUSLY look at Emu's newer EMULATOR X2 soft sampler.
The beat mangling functions are fantastic.
All non destructive audio edits BTW.
A new filter modeller that allows you to design custom Z-Plane Morphing filters.
An improved Virtual Patch bay with lag generators and the like.
They've even included the rather fantastic function generators from the UltraProteus & Morpheus (something that hasn't been seen in any other Emu product since).
It does come with a 3gig sound library.
Unlike Halion/Kontakt etc IT DOES ACTUALLY SAMPLE .
The X2 pack comes with a simple USB audio device for sampling input duties on your PC.
Well it's a great sampling package that actually SAMPLES for us PC users anyway.

I know hardware samplers are a matter of taste but I'd still take an Emu over an Akai sampler myself purely for the ergonomy to raw processing power ratio.
They can be had for peanuts these days BTW.
I'm actually looking at hunting down an Emu distributor in Oz if one exists.
The X2 demo's I've seen look great.

The emu soft sampler has exactly the same filters. And an updated higher quality DA than the old ultra series.

i use a jewharp on commercial trancetracks (just to pay my bills)..sounds way better than reaktor..d d doing doingy doingy d d doingy..WOW the power of analog..

yeah I stiil use my E-64
and I'll probably buy a 6400 at some point

I sold my ASR a while back... I can always borrow one when I really need one
but I've found I can get most of what I get out of an ASR out of Stylus RMX

I'm run Mac though otherwise I'd've bought the EMU card
I've heard mixed reviews on it though

I've heard some nice sounding Reason stuff lately
but the EMU hardware still can't be relpaced - (if you run on Mac anyway)

Nope, people do seem to be happy with the sound though. I have heard people say that there are compatibility problems with that card though.

Most of the compatibilty problem have been fixed now, I use an 1820m myself .
