Digi 001 & Ableton Live 5 Should I or Shouldn't I ?
I got a great deal on a Digi 001 Interface w/PCI card etc. but I just use Ableton Live 5 and wouldn't use Pro Tools LE that much. Before I install I wanted to know if it will work as a good I/O interface for LIVE 5 because it has lots of I/O options. Or Should I go with something else. I have a M-Audio Black Box but it doesn't have phantom power for my Condenser Mic. Monarch Hornet Pro w/AMD Athlon 3400+ /2GB/160GB

hi Mike - i appreciate your response. It sounds hopeful. Hope you don't mind me asking you a couple of rather obvious questions that i should know the answer to!
i have a g4 with Mac OS X 10.3.9 .I know the 001 when i purchased it nearly 4 years ago now was using the older o/s. Now would you know if the 001 can run ok on the newer o/s.I also have a newish dell p4.I could possible use that ( though it is quite busy driving a rimage cd duplicator).Again as i bought the whole package mac and 001 i am not sure if i can run the 001 on a pc. I did try going onto pro tools site and downloading something i think was supposed to make it all work on xp but it didn't! Just didn't do anything. Sorry i know i'm going on but i hardly ever touched the 001 system after it damaged my ear due to a software glitch in pro tools.(Highlighting a bit of audio - using auto touch -wearing hedphones - gets to end of playing back highlighted audio and wham -incredible screeching noise -not feedback - did in my ear) What i would dearly love is to use as it looks like possible to do , use the 001 hardware with the five live . Would you have any idea if both platforms can be used and which is the better? If using the pc i would use the Audigy 4 break out box and card.THe card does have agood spec but suspect the 001 is better .
PS Just to further complicate things I have a roland vs2480 that again I am hoping can be utilised, possible as a controller of five live.

001 only up to 10.3.9 on mac
you can use it on pc, but you need the install disk..you can get it through the mail from digi design..but you can only use up to protools 6.4..call em to get it
the digi 001 will work with ableton no problem.. i hardly ever open pro tools anymore
dunno about the noise

I have a digi 001 in my studio PC (Win XP home, 3Gz, 1 Gb ram),
It is senational for Live 5 use, imho.
Lots of I/O.
Easy on the processor as most of the sound processing is done on the PCI card and not by the CPU.
And clocks in at 5.x ms latency - lower latency than my mate's MOTU 828mk2 (connected to the same computer by firewire) which is 6.x ms.
I have the Protools package that came with my 001, but I never use it. I Was using Nuendo 3 (without problem) but am now moving closer and closer to using live as my all-in-one DAW.
