Decent monitors will only make your terrible mixing sound more clearly terrible.

If you have a good amp already your set. If not, then pick a beafy one up. If that's not possible then the active monitors you chose should have good wattage. So check those watt specs when you listen. I like some active monitors but if the spl's are important then you might be a bit dissapointed. Also listen for those internal amps to get weird sounding before they distort. Most of those active speakers have protection circuits that get a pumpy sound before they actually top out. Cheers

i agree with food and rent
...although when i got my student loan i blew it on a kickass video card, and in turn spent too much time playing games instead of studying so uh...
monitors.
