my version of winxp is on a bunch of recovery discs for a pc laptop, so its not like a normal install.

to do this, wont you need to get a hacked version of winxp home or pro ?

kinda like hacking psp's , its probably a good idea to let this brew amongst the techies for a couple of months until its a novice friendly thing to do...

You could just get a copy of the full Win XP install CD off bit torrent and use a legit product key, such as the one that's probably stuck on the back of the computer that you got the recovery discs with. You'd need to make sure it was the right version of XP though (Home, Pro?)

Mac intel

It has issues. Read about how Macpowerbook pro users are finding their machines turn into cookers as the bios no longer switches the cooling fans on.

I'd avoid it if i were you.

If you can afford it have one of each.

And how long will it take until friendly hackers have fixed that? A week? Of course you shouldn't start installing WinXP on your Macbook now, two days (!) after the problem has been solved. Now it is just curious hackers that should do it. But give it a couple of weeks and will probably be solid.

Personally, I couldn't care less either way. Occasionally running Mac OSX on my Dell on the other hand....hmmm...

I'm about a million times more interested in how it's going the other way round - is there a reasonable install of OSX for PC yet? or do you still have to find the tree that looks like shirley bassey, take 200 paces nor-nor west and do a secret handshake with a one legged man in Linux to get it to run?

Me musician, me want plug-n-play

correct me if i'm wrong, but... because OSx needs EFI, wouldn't it be simple to hypothesize that someone who spent the time working this project:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/elilo

should be able to get OSx working on an x86?

here's more info:

http://www.osx86project.org/index.php?o ... itstart=30

and yet another article about booting OSx on x86:

http://www.linux-watch.com/news/NS5570184378.html

personally, i think it's just a matter of playing the waiting game (and not much longer at that)...
