Live crashes OSX

I can't believe it Live crashes my new Tibook in OSX
Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE (0x0002) at 0x000000
Every time I try to record loops. I get a couple of loops going and then when I hit the headphone monitor switch on the next track to hear my source material, POOF! Live goes bye-bye.
I have sent a crash log to C. Kleine who did answer my initial email the same day so I can't fault their responsiveness. This really amazes me how awful LIVE and OSX are behaving together. So far Live is dead in OSX.
Has anyone else seen this behaviour?
I am using LIVE1.5 with OSX (10.1.4) on a Titanium 800Mhz with 1Gb of RAM.
Very dissapointing considering UNIX is supposed to be the worlds most stable operating system. I guess Unix has met its match!

I've only tried a Titanium 667 new with Live for 30 mins or so, had no real crashes but extremely sluggish performance, which is puzzling because the PowerBooks are supposed to be the world's most errr.. powerful laptops aren't they?
Other than that, I don't know what might cause this behaviour unfortunately....

On my TiBook 667 Live runs just the same under OS X and OS 9 - flawlessly.
It seems a few people have had trouble with the new 800MHz models though - possibly the new audio input hardware? Can you turn it off, or at least tell Live not to use it?

Geraldo, are you saying that you crash the OS, or just the application??

I run OS X and Live on a 550 Ti flawlessly.

I have crashed the system once since I had it... and that was a hardware problem I believe.

If you crash the OS then you may have a faulty bit of hardware, a bad driver or OS which is corrupted.

Crashing mac OS X is pretty hard to do. Once-a year sort of thing.


The powerbooks are not the fastest laptops out there, they have been fooling around after the 500 model... I believe with the cache etc...

With OS X though they are the most reliable, IMHO

I tell you what is weird...

Sometimes my live window can be dragged up beyong the menu bar at the top of the screen, meaning that I can't grab it back (it's covered be the menu bar)...
I've just installed new logitech drivers... could that be the cause or anyone else see this??

I am also having random Live crashes while recording some audio into Live if i click the prelisten button while trying to record audio into Live using PowerBook G3(Pismo) 500Mhz built in core audio and external firewire drive. It doesn't crash the OS X 1.1.5 though.

Funny after cursing Apple it was a 3rd party to blame again...

Apple's machines are far from being the most powerful (take a look at the different performance surveys here in the forum), but since they are coming from a single company controlling what goes in there and what not they are for sure less likely to be complicated if things get heavy (that's what I like about a Mac, and finally they have a less retarded OS now, great!), but nevertheless this happens with them too.

Anyway, I read in some postings across the net that the TiBooks 500/667 should be avoided for use with audio cards that rely on a high PCI bandwith (this has to do with the low number of interrupts per/ms these Tibooks allow). I don't know if this applies to the TiBook 800 too, because it seems to have another caching concept and hardware. So maybe your external audio hardware (if any) does make a hardware problem of the TiBook show up. (But truth could be far from that too and in the meantime ableton have solved your trouble propably on their side)
