Fast track pro : XP reboot

Post by Chris J » Sat Mar 18, 2006 11:14 am

Hi, I'm in some deep shit.
I used to DJ with a laptop with the internal soundcard, the output level was very low, and no output for cueing.
So I bought this fast track pro, after reading good opinions here.

But whenever I run Live (I mean launch it without actually press play) the laptop restarts after a few minutes, with a message "xp recovered from a serious error" with a log file.

launched winamp with the fast track pro assigned as output and it did again after a few minutes.
Obviously that's the card, not LIve.

Any idea regarding what could be wrong ?
I've read people hadn't any problems with this card

Apparently (touching wood) the screen saver knocked in after 5 minutes, and the card didn't like at all.
still testing but OK so far

m-audio has got a strange reputation about drivers, I refrain from buying it,
pls keep us informed about your progress.

you're right, but about this card I read here that the drivers were OK, and people who had griefs with other models seemed happy with this one.

I've been running Live for an hour (I'm not doing anything, which is why the screensaver started) and it hasn't crashed, I can safely say that the screen saver (which is actually a blank black screen) had something to do with it.
With the internal sound card it always cuts the sound for a second when it kicks in.

Screensaver? That's a big no-no with audio apps.

I highly recommend doing everything on this list:

These tweaks may not help your present situation, but it certainly will not hurt!

yeah thanks, I know about the tweaks, it's just I often play music on winamp from my laptop and put a blank screen saver to save the battery, and forgot to turn it off when testing the card

The problem might not be the screensaver itself, but the power-saving stuff.

The default setting on notebooks shuts off the USB power when the screensaver kicks in, but in can be set to leave it on. You can change this somewhere in the hardware control panel, I just don't remember exactly where...

In fact it's better to leave the USB power always on even with interfaces with AC adapters (M-Audio Quattro seems to choke on this too).

yeah cheers, everything's always on now.
Now I've got another problem which I'll post in a new thread :
When I move faders of stuff in Live it makes that Horrible noise, nearly as loud as the music.
for f*ck's sake, will it ever end ?
