The only hassle is copying the sound on the zip drive in order to load them in the mpc... even making programs is slow but the punchyness of it's sound and its swing are wonderful payback for the time "lost".

im into the MPC swing as well... ive also noticed its got a punchy sound as well, cant put my finger on it, but the drums sound harder when they come out the MPC, ive A/B them (with original wav) after recording them into Ableton.. and they just sound better to me... must be the old DAC's on the MPC2000XL.. + maybe the ADC on my MOTU.. whatever it is, it just sounds punchier to me... anyone know why?

i agree, the mpc2000 does sound alot more punchier. i thought the 1000 was going to be the same but its different. i think they used the same sample engine as the s2000- i dunno. its a shame that the screens sucked and that its hard to easily get sounds on it. the scuzzy sucks.

I have my stereo outs going into my emu 0404, and basically record drumming on the pads the same way you would record real drumming or any other physical instrument. I also do this with chopped guitar and bass loops, as well as loops off of records.
It doesnt really matter if im a little off time any more what with the warp points, but unless im really far off I dont change it.
Its a much more sporatic work flow for me and everything sounds much more live.

Try going into global level and set it 0 decibels. Its set at -12 on default. This should give a punchier sound.

I was planning to use Live more like a live mixer with effects, running the MPC
outputs to Live's tracks. Sort of like routing different sounds out of Impulse. I
think the advantage would be that I could get the "MPC sound" with better effects.
I just want to experiment right now and see the different ways they can be used
together.

I usually just use regular midi channels into Live. What is the benefit of using
midi clock? I wish I could get clips to behave like they were in the MPC.

live + mpc1000 is the core of my setup now...originally the idea was to use this for live stuff, but it's such a riotously fun combo that i find i use them all the time for everything.
they're definitely different, and their differences really complement one another nicely...i just have midi clock going to the mpc and boom...instant bug out.
my live set-up has also slimmed down to the point where it's just a laptop, uc33, the mpc and a kaoss pad. much simpler...i like.
