HELP: NOTEBOOK/DESKTOP SPECS...

Post by takatak » Tue Mar 21, 2006 10:27 pm

Hey, new to 'computer music production' and ABLETON LIVE 5...Just wondering what specs you all are running your music on (processor, RAM)...I would be recording my bass and guitar 'live' and adding midi later on (trying for that 'Blockhead' type sound, in case anyone's interested)...I had a problem with another computer (at 2.8GHz and 1G RAM - which I thought was more than enough power for the program I was using {NUENDO at the time}, and want to make sure I'm completely ready and don't run into any more frustrating hardware roadbumps...I mean, isn't 2.8GHz and 1G RAM more than enough power for what I want to do and running ABLETON LIVE?..I'm thinking of getting a SONY VAIO notebook and was wondering if anyone else out there used one (worried that notebook processors are "lower" than desktops, but there's less they have to do - any comments on this subject appreciated, too), or had any suggestions for brand/specs...Thanks for your time...Z.

I got a nearly 2 year old sony vaio pcg-k215S with 2,8 GHz P4 and only 512 MB ram and it works fine with live 5 and reason 3.0. I record guitar and bass via boss GS-10 into Live 5. Synth and drum-programming via reason or Live before or afterwords. Until now I only had up to 12 tracks so I never had a problem. CPU was seldom over 50 %. I admitt I'm only starting using the computer for recording too. I also used nuendo, it may be great software, but it was too much for me.

Have fun
