No sound, only squeeks
No sound, only squeeks
I´ve been working with live on a Powerbook G4 for 3 months.
My audio interface is Motu 828MKII.
There has been no problems, until now.
3 days before a mayor and important live gig.
When I turned on my system today I could get no sound.
Changed absolutely nothing yesterday.
I realised that in the Audio Preferences there were no ASIO choise.
Only Core Audio.
Have installed the latest drivers from Motu, but that did not solve anything.
Itunes plays perfekt through the Motu.
Any tips for a desperate guy on his edge of cancelling the whole gig?

Could this be a problem with the mac or Live?
The mac communicates good with the Motu 828 in other sound applications...
I have tried everything. Sample rates, buffer sizes etc...
I have now started up my old grumpy PC to try to save the concert....
It is so heavy I probably have to pay overweight on the plane.

Anything yet?
I am suddenly experiencing the same thing. One day everything works fine. THe 828 MKII is the hub of my home studio. I have a mic going into it, and an M-Audio Keystation Pro 88. Output goes to my basement studio sound system. I can record, playback, etc.
Now, When I launch Live (or garage band or Traktor 3) there is no playback, only the dog-whistle high pitch tones.
If I quit everything and restart, then just launch iTunes, it plays fine through the 828.
The only things I have tweaked recently was the installation of Traktor 3, and I purchased a Behringer Firewire audio interface. But the interface was not connected when the 828 was. And I tried running Live without Traktor running.
I updated Live to 5.2, updated OSX, updated MOTU firewire drivers.
HELP!!!
Thanks,
Derek

Thanks Amaury, I tried, but no it did not help.
This is happening with many applications, not just Live, when trying to play sound through the 828. iTunes and system sounds work fine, but no other applications.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Derek

Rock on, I fixed my issue. I had to reset the 828MKII to factory settings. Assuming the author's problem is the same as mine, here is how to fix it:
Disconnect the firewire cable from the 828mkII
Press the Setup knob
Turn the Setup knob all the way to the right
Press the Select knob
Press the Value knob
Power off the interface and plug the firewire cable back in
Power the interface back on
The same steps can be followed to restore the Factory Default Settings on a Traveler.

Oh you are my hero!!!!!!!!!!
I just started having the same problem today and I was freaking out about it - have a show I'm preparing for and this was making things look rather gloomy.
But yeah...I reset the factory defaults and all seems well.
Its really bizarre that this has started happening to people - I wonder what it is that is doing it...5.2 update or something? oh well I'm happy for now.
Thanks again.

The Motu Tech support guys just got back to me, and just incase the reset doesn't fix the problem for other users I thought I'd post the 2 extra steps below that they suggested:
I would like you to perform the following resets on this unit:
1. Factory reset: Remove the FW cable and push In the setup knob once. Scroll the setup knob all the way to the right and push in the select knob once. Next, push in the value knob. The sample rate will flash indicating the reset has taken place. Reconnect FW cable.
2. Launch the MOTU Firewire Console and reset the optical i/o. Open the tab for the 828 and then look at the optical i/o. If they are set to none, switch them to ADAT. If the are already set to ADAT, switch them to None and then back to ADAT.
3. Reset the voltage: Power off the unit and remove the power cable from the interface. Locate the red voltage switch along the right hand side of the unit. Toggle this switch back and forth several times and set it back to the appropriate voltage setting. Reconnect the power cable and power on the unit.
