Can someone explain to me the attraction to Slim Shady's delivery. To me he raps like he has some script and he's guessing at the '1'. I don't get breakbeat flow like that.

yo, my white chocolate brother, close your mouth I ain't ready for that blowjob yet, I'll let you know. And get that coffee cup down from the tape deck, it's gonna spill on your gear.

So what's the dealio with Eminem's flow? Q-tip, he's smoove, LL Cool J... smoove. Eminem's sounds like he's reading a grovery list or a children's story. I've had his shit on mp3 (bad hip hop seems to make up most pirated music, coincidence? cheap audience with bad taste) and I've deleted them all. I listen to plenty of rap, I don't get MnM.

...and when the hell is Outkast going to stop trying to do rock and roll? One more reason to hate MTV. Take his guitars away, give him turntables and two sealed copies of GrandMaster Flash and the Furious Five 'The Message', that guy's been eating too much mayonaise, watching episodes of Friends or something...

He's too high class for mayonaisse. It's Aioli sauce for him.

FYI M&M's lyrics are actually really good but he's no Beastie Boys - now that was cutting edge, good beats and an all around good time for all...

I wouldn't listen to Eminem personally (I'm not a fan) but his lyrics are MUCH more intelligent than the Beastie Boys.

The Beasties, while certainly good producers and can make some funky shit, don't have a clue about lyrics. It's all rhyming about how good they are. Please, what a waste. The boys haven't matured since Lisence to Ill.

Eminem is a narrator of stories. It's a style, admittedly not one I'm into, but certainly respectable.

That said, I would listen to the Beasties any time any day - their shit just sounds better, and their production is much more inspired. Eminem follows trends, the Beasties start 'em.

Eminem is completely mentally incapable of writing lyrics like Bodhisativa Vow, from what I remember most of his lyrics are about shrooms, bitches and generally being an asshole. It's not hard to write when you don't have a rhythmic flow.

BUT when I get in a mood where I'm listening to nothing but rap the B-Boys can sound harsh and not as 'smoove' as other artists.

Good post though, I'm just blabbing...

"Bodhisattva Vow"

As I Develop The Awakening Mind I Praise The Buddha As They Shine
I Bow Before You As I Travel My Path To Join Your Ranks,
I Make My Full Time Task
For The Sake Of All Beings I Seek
The Enlighted Mind That I Know I'll Reap
Respect To Shantideva And All The Others
Who Brought Down The Darma For Sisters And Brothers
I Give Thanks For This World As A Place To Learn
And For This Human Body That I Know I've Earned
And My Deepest Thanks To All Sentient Beings
For Without Them There Would Be No Place To Learn What I'm Seeing
There's Nothing Here That's Not Been Said Before
But I Put It Down Now So I'll Be Sure
To Solidify My Own Views And I'll Be Glad If It Helps
Anyone Else Out Too

If Others Disrespect Me Or Give Me Flack
I'll Stop And Think Before I React
Knowing That They're Going Through Insecure Stages
I'll Take The Opportunity To Exercise Patience
I'll See It As A Chance To Help The Other Person
Nip It In The Bud Before It Can Worsen
A Change For Me To Be Strong And Sure
As I Think On The Buddhas Who Have Come Before
As I Praise And Respect The Good They've Done
Knowing Only Love Can Conquer In Every Situation
We Need Other People In Order To Create
The Circumstances For The Learning That We're Here To Generate
Situations That Bring Up Our Deepest Fears
So We Can Work To Release Them Until They're Cleared
Therefore, It Only Makes Sense
To Thank Our Enemies Despite Their Intent

The Bodhisattva Path Is One Of Power And Strength
A Strength From Within To Go The Length
Seeing Others Are As Important As Myself
I Strive For A Happiness Of Mental Wealth
With The Interconnectedness That We Share As One
Every Action That We Take Affects Everyone
So In Deciding For What A Situation Calls
There Is A Path For The Good For All
I Try To Make My Every Action For That Highest Good
With The Altruistic Wish To Achive Buddhahood
So I Pledge Here Before Everyone Who's Listening
To Try To Make My Every Action For The Good Of All Beings
For The Rest Of My Lifetimes And Even Beyond
I Vow To Do My Best To Do No Harm
And In Times Of Doubt I Can Think On The Dharma
And The Enlightened Ones Who've Graduated Samsara

BBoys did mature alot after License to ILL,
I think they are taking the piss not wanting to be taken too seriously on alot of tunes...its music definately and for me some of the best hip hop along with Tribe,Hiero, etc
good example of some of their best (deep) tunes from deadlykungfu
Still feeling that album to this day, Flute Loops,Rootdown
