but thanks anyway for providing such a great idea as a pluggin!
big up yoself!
Yeah well, it is one install, which is pluggo runtime. That could be usefull with many other plugs, including the marvellous Hydratone... Then, it's drag and drop from the zip to your folder. How hard is that ??? :D

am is are wrote:LIVE VJ is definitely the direction we're headed. in 10 years, computers will probably all be running 64bit (at least) with access to massive amounts of RAM, and an audio/video performance software will probably be a rather run-of-the-mill item.

but i'd love to see Ableton get there first. yes, a sync'd QT window would be a lovely addition, but i absolutely want an A/V performance tool where video clips are coupled with audio clips, and audio and FX parameters and LFO's can be used to FX the video.

i think it would be a bad idea to make video EDITING a part of Live, other than being able to select a certain time range within a video clip to match the audio clip's length. any VJ implementation in LIVE i think should focus on unique performance ability, great FX, smooth performance and linkage to audio info/parameters.

i don't care if the initial video quality/resolution isn't that good, or if it's just in black and white (ok, we must have color!), or if video clips can only be a maximum of 30 seconds long, and you can't mix/run/blend view more than 4 clips at a time (per scene for instance). just be able to link Video clips with whatever Audio clips you want and be able to link video FX to audio parameters (pitch and amplitude). Do your video clip creation and editing and initial FX in a dedicated video program, and then just add a VIDEO folder in the Live Library section for drag n drop during performance. the video functionality could also be "totally" transparent - just hit a modifier key to expand the audio clip slots into audio and video slots so you can select FX. oh, and focus is on performance so don't worry about integrating video clips into the arrangement window.. arrangement can get by with a simple sync'd QT window for editing sound to picture.

and rendering? well, let there be a performance mode where only audio moves are recorded, and a studio mode where audio and video is recorded (though you wouldn't have to monitor the video if you didn't want to -- after all, you already presumably captured and edited the clips and chose the bits you wanted to perform with.) then you could render/export as a QT file.

and just make sure the application itself is lean and mean (hopefully even leaner and meaner than it is now) so the average user can still use LIVE for audio (and video), BUT - if you want to do amazing stuff, you've got to pay the price for a performance machine. heck, i just sold my old 867mhz Powerbook and bought a 2.0ghz Centrino just so i could do a lot more with LIVE when i'm gigging.

peace

Quicktime implementation is a *MUST* these days... It would make Live my number one App of all times. ...until then it's a toy - well - sorta -

I've just finished a nightmarish 2 weeks doing TV/Film stuff using Logic rewired (tried ReVision - its rubbish- you can only use Live as a ReWire slave) and all i can say is.. PLEASE GIVE ME A QUICKTIME VIDEO WINDOW/PANEL whatever in Live.... i will love you all forever...

$149 is pretty steep if you don't use all the features and just want to sync a video.

.avi and .mov window needs..

Post by reiky » Thu Mar 23, 2006 7:05 pm

I succesfully linked via rewire with audition, which supports a .avi monitor.

but it's silly and time&CPU consuming. audition is also stupid compared with live, and I don't really need it

I make soundtracks as a job, and it's the only real wish for me.

adding video would completely eliminate my need to use any programs but live.

I also think so. But it would not be without side effects. I'm already too lazy to switch on my outboard... I'd become too lazy to even sell it. Always fear this addiction, for a while, at least....
live is a legal drug

oh please yes!

i vote for a video playback inside LIVE

& please support all the frame rates
as i mostly use 24fps for film and 25fps PAL
but also occasionally work on NTSC projects

FWIW as a post production person it is VERY reassuring
if the audio program I am using does NOT allow editing of video...
In most instances I should be working/syncing to a MASTER video
and if there are edits to be done, best they be done in another
program & re-exported as MASTER video v2 or whatever....

video yes please

Post by pistoire » Fri Mar 31, 2006 11:26 am

having video within live would be really nice!
no editing please! there's other excellent programs to do that...
just an audio/videoclip which you could speed up or down
and output the video on plasmas or screens...

it would make pioneer's dvjx1 obsolete...
and my life on airplanes much easier...

my two cents

of cource it would be great to have video in live, but lets handle it realsiticly.
live 4 was working really nice. live 5 is full of bugs. what would be if video options would be allso added. it would not even start?

What would make an Ableton video editor unique is Live's interface. Being able to loop video clips (not to mention visual effects, scrambling video the way you would beats, etc.), then fade them up and down, as with music, would be amazing.

So yeah, multi-track video editing, with FX. The video equivalent of Live.

It may not have to be a Live plug-in or update. Could be a new program, that works seamlessly with Live.

Animation tools, a la Flash and AfterEffects, would put it over the top. (Starring Sylvester Stallone.)
