Electribe sx or mx, can't decide!!!

Hello Peeps,

Going to buy an electribe to run along side my laptop running ableton live, would be using it to create drum patterns on the fly etc. not sure which one to go for, the mx or the sx (sampler)

the thing is you can't load any new sounds into the mx but you can with the sx since it's a sampler, so you could always change the drums etc.

Any electribe mx or sx users out there who could help?

mostly beacause I like to mess w/ my own samples

i like both machines though

I spent only 10 minutes to learn how to play with the MX at Guitar center. I wanted to buy it then but...I have only two hands and two feet and like six or seven devices to play and my new partner is a drummer, so I decided to get the SPD-20 from Roland now and think about getting the Electribe mx in a few months...It's really amazing.

Will probably end up buying the sx as it looks as if it's better for drums, hits etc.

Going to be posting up soon but have another stylistik night coming up, the launch went down a storm!!

me and my mate quartz are playing out with a laptop, drum machine, cd decks, it's mostly tech house stuff but drop everything in there from disco to salsa!!

Get a MachineDrum instead. It's the best drum machine/groovebox ever. It sounds and acts much more pro than an electribe.

MX is fun, musicians toy. OK for live use but too limited for serious studio use. If you want sampler then MPC is better choice, the only feature that makes them really worth buying ( and why I keep mine) is the touch pad/ arp combination.

Um, I don't think some people are clear...

The Korg Electribe SX is a sampler. You only get the some limited sounds to start with (delete them) and you get what you put into it. (It's a sampler!). It does have a great effects section and you can really twist the sounds up once you load them in.

The Korg Electribe MX is a "music production station" standalone groovebox if you will. I own it and it has really helped me get some improvisational patterns going that I would normally not thought of myself. It truly can create some nasty, thick bass patterns and banging drums. It also works well for textured ambient sounds. I have a lot of fun with it and like I said, you can really find sounds you weren't "looking for" by just applying effects and palying with the filters, etc. A great peice of gear that as of about a couple months back, has dropped down to $499 in the USA.

As far as the poster above concerning the Machinedrum, yeah, I would have gladly choosen a Machinedrum over an MX but the Machinedrum costs $1300 vs. $500. That's a pretty big price difference that you kind of left out...

Dude, didn't you just buy the MX like two months ago? I remember you posting about how great it was then. I for a fact know that Steve Bug and Ricardo Villalobos use them in the studio and on-stage. As a matter of fact, I know a ton of people keep these things in there studios.

There is just no way you can be bored of the MX, or any other peice of gear that fast! Did you even try to crack the surface (or the manual) of this thing?

I swear, I have been using a lot of the same gear for years and I learn new things about the gear all of the time!

Sorry, I don't mean to be all angry-like but it takes more than a couple months before you can denounce something as quality as the MX as a musicians toy!

Take it easy, I meant TOY in absolutely positive sense, it is fun to use. I am enjoying iz a lot, specially live on stage, also gives me extra confidence in case something would go with my notebook system since MX goes separately to house PA. Since I played 15 years fretless instruments I have lots of fun actually playing it ( the touvche pad in reversed mode) as a very different, fresh, inspiring instrument.
The velocity , its absence is the worst drag, the other thing lack of editor ( though I saw great one for the previos version, hope that man will do it for MX) so dont use it in studio and maybe will never do but it does not mean it is shit.
If anyone wants to woe a musician girl- MX is better then buying flowers, if anyone wants to give present to himself MX is the right choice, instant gratification 100%.

P.S. I would even feel sorry for somebody who wouldnt be able to enjoy this "toy" that would mean he/she does not like music or fun or both
