Max/MSP or PD vs Reaktor for creating custom control panels?

Post by Suade » Mon Mar 27, 2006 1:10 am

I'm hoping some of you can advise me as to how good Max/MSP and PD are for creating on-screen interfaces. I already know Reaktor 5 and what is available there graphically but I haven't been able to find any impressive examples done with Max/MSP or PD that show what they can do in terms of customizing the look of a patch's control surface.

The sound processing I want to do is pretty standard and can be done with any modular music software but I want to optimize the appearance of my interface on-screen and I'm not sure which way to go.

Any thoughts?

Dont look at MAx/MSP and PureData if you want nice looking graphics. Reaktor is much better.

The jsui object in Max/MSP is pretty cool... it can let you do MUCH more interesting things than the controls in reaktor. It is especially fun if you know Java / JavaScript.

But if you just need knobs/sliders/buttons, Reaktor is probably the way to go.

Max supports the OpenGL interface, which allows you to do any interface
you can possibly imagine. But it does mean it will take a little more
effort. Reaktor has a bunch of pretty knobs and sliders that come
ready made.
