I love Simpler!

The beauty of this little sampler-thing never ceases to make me cheer. It feels like my old Akai sampler. To me, a sampler is an instrument in its own right and not so much about reproducing other instruments. Simpler brings back the joy of experimenting with whatever sounds. And it's light on the cpu, too.

I've not really looked at simpler that much yet. What I'd like to be able to do is take a samlple of a sound from a track I'd play while DJ'ing, and create a midi sequence playing that sound. Obviously the sample would have to come from part of the track with no drums/bass/percussion...

How would you alter the sampled sounds Attack, Release, Sustain and Decay to make it sound like a programmed/played synth line?

Also - how would you ensure that the sound you've sampled will sound correct when played up and down the keyboard? ie - if the note you sample is an e, how do you ensure that when you press e an e is played?

Okay - I'm scratchin' my own head now...

I essentially replaced Kontakt (buggy, CPU-hogging POS) with Simpler. I'd still like it to be a bit more flexible (maybe with better interpolation filtering, some split-key capability, and layering) but I certainly see the beauty in it's simplicity.

I love to put a melodic loop in it, assign the start point of the loop to a knob and messing around... you can do nice things.
ps.: this trick has been suggested by dirtytudios time ago

Yes - simpler RAWKS!!!

Turn on looping, modulate your start point with clip envelopes, play with the fade and length values, try different samples, be effing amazed!

The pitch midi plug in can be used to limit key ranges, so you can split simplers, impulses, operators, vstis all the way up your kb!

I soooo agree with you. I only started playing with Simpler two nights ago and it's so cool.

Did a whole track, just as an experiment, with just Simpler and 1 instance of Stylus RMX.

I just hope for tempo synced lfos and maybe some Operator style repeating envelopes in Live 6!

Simpler is great for an easy quick one-sample sampler. Its crazy what kind of things you can come up with it. The filters sound great in my opinion too especially with the velocity to filter cutoff hooked up. my one beef with simpler is it pays no attention to embedded loop points in wav files. Other than that the thing screams..

You're right zerobae and you have just inspired me to use it more.

I used to have one of those bottom-range Akai S01 samplers and sometimes feel like I used to make better music with just that, one synth, a TR 909 and a cheap old multi-effects unit - because I had to make do with what I had.

It forces you to be very creative in order to emulate your favourite records and you sometimes come up with some great stuff that genuinely has "you" in it rather than just some ready-made loops and sounds.

So I'm all for Simpler

Yeah, I had the S01, too. Fifteen secs. of sampling... I feel just the same about the quality of my music - for me, making it has to be a mix of knowing what I do and finding something unexpected.
